Our home

Welcome to our peaceful home where those who visit leave feeling they have been on holiday even if they have only been here for a short while.

Our home is an original 1910 Kauri Villa built from trees milled on-site. It is set on 7 acres of mainly native bush with sea views to the west and CBD views to the east. We are up a long private driveway for complete privacy.

Along with the native plants, we have fruit trees and a vegetable patch so feel free to help yourself. We have 8 pet sheep who require nothing more than a scratch behind the ears, bees for honey, chickens who will provide fresh eggs, 2 affectionate cats and a gentle spoodle.

We have 3 large double rooms with ensuite bathrooms and two single bedrooms with a shared bathroom, each with King single beds. There are two eating areas; the informal dining gets all day sun and the formal dining has a log burner.

Our lounge has plenty of seating and separate TV area. We also have a conservatory with views of the garden and toys for children. It is the perfect place to read your book.

The house is cool in summer and has heatpumps, a log burner and plenty of insulation to guard against winter weather.

Although in a rural setting, the local shops are 5 minutes away, we have 2 large shopping malls within 20mins and the CBD is only 30mins drive.

We love living in our tranquil oasis and invite you to share the peace and quiet.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are a family of 4: myself and my Irish husband plus our 2 well behaved children, age 6 and 8..
Pete works in IT and I am very busy raising our family, running the house, tending the garden, running a B&B and working at the Citizens Advice Bureau. We are animal lovers, keen gardeners and enjoy travelling.

I brought Pete back to New Zealand a few years ago and am enjoying showing off this fabulous country that we live in. Our children are very good travellers and know to respect other people's property.

We have done house exchanges, house sits and have had plenty of house sitters so know how to care for someone else's home as well as knowing what it is like to have someone live in ours.

We are both non-smokers and enjoy quiet living.

We are especially keen to hear from people within New Zealand, a chance to explore different parts of our wonderful country!

We are available for long weekends and school holidays .
No harm in asking, we will always say yes if we can!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We are just minutes from the fabulously long Muriwai beach with it's impressive surf, famous Gannet colony and various cafes.

There are numerous vineyards in the area with tastings, cellar door sales and Jazz on Sundays at Coopers Creek vineyard.
The local Hallertau brewery brews onsite and has a restaurant attached too.

Kumeu is the fruitbowl of the west. There are so many orchards, fruit and veg shops and pick your own strawberries, you will never be hungry.
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes from fine dining at Allely house or Thai Silk through to $12 meals at the local RSA!

You can learn to surf, horseride and play golf down at Muriwai or even practice skiing at Snowplanet in Albany.

If mountain biking and tree rope climbing is your thing, Woodhill forest with it's plentiful bike trails and scarily impressive rope climbing courses is just up the road.

Kumeu village has everything to meet your needs: Library, shops and churches.

We are also on the West Art trail with plenty of local artists willing to show their craft.

The area is full of lifestyle blocks so a walk down the road will have you meeting sheep, cows, pigs, alpacas and donkeys.
