Our home

Our home was built in 1940's, recently renovated and is very spacious and comfortable. Seperate kitchen, 2 living areas plus small conservatory leading onto generous patio. 1 Queen bedroom, 1 King and a twin singles bedroom plus bathroom upstairs, and an extra bathroom downstairs.
The garden is full of roses, rhodies and camellias and is quite private. A short walk takes you thru a peaceful park and on to the very popular Caroline Bay where the swimming is very safe. If you are visiting in the right season you will be able to see penguins coming in each evening to nest or feed young ones.

Property features

Who we are

  1. My name is Micky, my husband is Alistair, we are retired. Al has been a farmer and more recently, a landscape/gardener. We both love gardening, and have a wonderful display of roses to prove it. Al bought a caravan 10 years ago, and we love tripping around in it.
We have exchanged many times now, all around the world, and find it a wonderful way to really get to know an area.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Timaru is 2 hours from Christchurch, and 3 hours south to Dunedin on State Hwy 1.. The southern lakes can be accessed in 3-4 hours, and in winter skiing is approx. 1 1/2 hrs away.
It is a smallish city, with a busy port, and supports the local agricultural scene. Everything is easy to find, parking is easy and the locals are relaxed and friendly. There is a shop in the port where wholesale fish can be purchased fresh off the boats.
The climate is great, a popular area to retire to, and anything seems to grow here, hence a wonderful Gardens, and heritage rose garden.

Best restaurants
Timaru has a 'piazza' area overlooking the Bay, and all the eateries there are great. We also have 2 'farm' cafes, with an assortment of animals, very popular with children and parents.
Nightlife
Al and I are past the nightclub stage, but I think there are a couple of spots.
Favourite cafés
we have several we frequent, depends on the mood.
Where to go shopping
Main street shopping is the thing here, with plenty of offstreet parking available.
Your area's cultural and historical landmarks
Timaru has a wonderful old home which was left to the city, and is now a well known Art Gallery called Aigantyghe.. There are several lovely churches plus a museum. There are also spots where Maori cave drawings can be seen.
Local walks
Heaps of walks by the sea or aroung estuaries.
Places you love to exercise
Gertz (the Schnauzer) and I love to walk in Ashbury Park, the trees are a beautiful sight.
Top day trips
Oamaru, Geraldine, Christchurch, or inland to enjoy the countryside.
