Our home

We live in a little private paradise called Baddeleys Beach right at the water's edge of a very safe beach around one hour's easy drive north from Auckland city. The place offers total tranquility during the week with lovely neighbours not too far away and regular weekenders who would make you feel right at home in no time. The tidal beach has an abundant bird life including tuis, herons and wood pigeons and is ideal for kayaking and sailing. There are also 2 free tennis courts, a petanque court, and children's playground 2 minutes walk away.
The house has stunning views from a large partially covered deck at the front. The gas barbecue and outdoor heater make it the perfect place to entertain in the summer. A small lawn and vegetable garden adjoin the front deck and a small sunny deck at the back of the house catches all the morning sun. The board and batten house is on one level and features a large open plan kitchen/dining/living room opening onto the front deck with bifold doors that open out the whole space. A separate lounge/tv room has lovely views of the bay. There is a master bedroom with ensuite toilet and 2 other bedrooms; one with a double bed and another that could accommodate bunks but is used as an office by us at present. There is a large bathroom/laundry including cast iron bath, shower and toilet. The large garage beneath the deck can accommodate 2 cars and outside stairs access the dwelling. The house has recently been renovated in a casual beach style with washed oak floors and natural furnishings.

Who we are

  1. We are Gilbert (57) and Janet (55). Gilbert was born in France but has lived in New Zealand for the last 27 years and has had 2 boys here. They are now in their 20s. Janet is New Zealand born and has 3 daughters, also all in their 20s and independent. We are both semi retired teachers but Gilbert has also just graduated as a naturopath and both of us have been very involved with renovating our house in the last couple of years. We both love the beautiful natural environment of where we live. We enjoy kayaking nearly every day, walking, tennis, reading, going to the cinema and sharing good food with family and friends. We are both keen to go to France to spend time with Gilbert's family who all live near Grenoble and also to explore the countryside. The last time we were in France was on our honeymoon 5 years ago and the six weeks we had in France was definitely not long enough!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Baddeleys Beach itself is beautiful but there are also many other bays around to explore. We live close to a well known regional park, Tawharanui, renowned for its sandy beaches, incredible views, walks through native bush and abundant native bird life. The whole area is excellent for boating, fishing, walking, cycling, diving, surfing and kite surfing. Also 10 minutes away is Matakana with its weekly farmers market and cinemas, vineyards which offer musical events as well as wine tasting and award winning restaurants. There are primary and secondary schools nearby and the school bus service extends to our bay. Auckland city, with its sky tower, harbour, shopping, nightlife, museum, galleries, cultural and sporting events is only an hour's drive away, mostly by motorway. In summer Auckland really comes alive with free outdoor music events and cultural activities.
