Our home

We built our home 5 years ago on a bare acre of land. We have since added gardens and planted trees but left lots of lawn. There are four bedrooms with the main bedroom having an en suite and the other three bedrooms sharing a main bathroom and a separate toilet. One bedroom is my studio and framing room. There is an office with internet access and a separate laundry. The lounge is large and separate from the family/library that leads onto the dining area and kitchen. There are decks that lead off from the dining area on the east and off from the lounge to the west. Both have access through French doors. We built to a high standard of energy efficiency with extra thick, well insulated walls and roof cavity, double glazed windows and under-floor heating fueled via the sun and a diesel boiler. The coloured and polished concrete floors are softened with carpet in the bedrooms. Our house is cool in the summer and warm in the winter and set back from a quiet country road with spectacular views to the Remarkable mountains,

Who we are

  1. Brett and I (Barbara) are looking forward to enjoying more time away as we near retirement. Brett works at Queenstown Airport as an engineer and pilot and I enjoy picture framing, watercolour painting, writing and Tai Chi-ing. Our two adult children are also keen to travel when they finish their training. We both enjoy walking and biking. Brett is always interested in any aviation activities and sailing. I love Art Galleries, Museums and all historical places. We like the idea of getting to know an area in depth and having time to take short sight-seeing trips with a base to come back to.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Arrowtown lies 1160 feet above sea level in the Wakatipu basin which is nestled in the Southern Alps of the South Island of New Zealand. The Southern Lakes area borders the Fiordland (home of Milford Sound) and Aspiring National Parks. Arrowtown is our nearest village and is 3 minutes away and boasts a relaxed atmosphere where cafes, restaurants, shopping and a boutique cinema are available. Queenstown, famous for its adventure activities, is 20 minutes drive away and lies on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. Check out www.everythingqueenstown.com for a complete round-up of all that is on offer there. Our home is 10 minutes away from Coronet Peak Ski field; 20 minutes away from The Remarkables Ski field; 40 minutes away from the two Cardrona Ski fields. We enjoy all the wonderful walking tracks available very close to our home; many of them are also biking tracks. A world class golf course is available at Millbrook Resort a mere 5 minutes away and Gibbston Valley, 20 minutes drive, grows and makes superb wines that can be enjoyed at their Tasting Rooms.
