Our home

Our home is large, spacious, sunny and uncluttered. It has high ceilings and a largely open-plan ground floor, comprising kitchen, dining area, and several living areas. The ground floor includes a small office which can be used as a bedroom, and laundry/shower/toilet. There are several outdoor seating areas, and we often eat our summer meals outdoors. The upstairs floor includes a double bedroom, our 12 year old daughter's bedroom and the main bathroom. Across the courtyard from the house is a separate building housing a garage and extra bedroom downstairs, with a library upstairs.

Besides the house and garage/library, there is a barn and a number of worksheds we have built over the past 15 or so years. The buildings sit on about 20 acres of rural farmland and regenerating native bush, with a swimmable river on the boundary of the property (five minutes walk from the house). Our home will appeal to people who are looking for a quiet rural retreat.

Who we are

  1. We - Felicity and Alastair - have one 12 year old daughter, Jean. Felicity is a counselor, working at a university and in private practice in Masterton. Alastair is a semi-retired journalist. We are keen travellers, who get over to the Northern Hemisphere less often than we would like to. Partly inspired by images from the 2012 Olympics, we are very keen to base ourselves in London for several weeks in late 2013 (as part of an extended European trip) to revisit old haunts, introduce Jean to culture she has only read about or seen in movies, and ramble through this wonderful city.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live 90 minutes from the capital city Wellington, with daily train connections (the station is a 20 minute drive from our home) enabling day trips to Wellington. Our nearest Wairarapa towns (Masterton and Carterton) are both 15 minutes away by car. The leading attractions of the Wairarapa region are wineries, and outdoor pursuits including water sports and hiking. The entrance to a large forest park and mountain range is just 10 minutes down the road by car, offering a huge variety of walking options from 20 minute strolls to two or three day mountain hikes. There are three golf courses within 30 minutes drive of our home.
