Our home

Our house is small, comfortable, clean, and warm in winter with traditional furniture, a fireplace and electric heaters. The house has 2.5 bedrooms (the third being an office), a library in the sitting room and new kitchen with adjoining dining room. The french doors from the sitting room open on to a fenced garden that is semi-private. The main bedroom has french doors opening onto a small private balcony with a wine-barrel pond and fish. There are lots of shrubs and flowers, a lawn, a gravel area (for playing boules?!) and a small pond in the main garden. Even in winter we sit in the sun at lunchtime outside round the table. We enjoy spending time at home and in the garden and having friends over, so the house is warm and inviting. We have two dogs (ancient and modern) who we could leave to be taken care of or not, depending on whether you are dog-lovers! We also have cars to leave for you to make use of, including a 4-wheel drive for ski-racks etc.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are an international couple (NZ/British) and long-term francophiles with friends and family in several countries. Our main interest is to be able to offer our home to people who would like to explore NZ while we get back to France. Ultimately, we intend to buy a house in the south west of France to live in permanently, but meanwhile would like to borrow a French home in order to explore the possibilities while seeing our family and friends there in the summer of 2009. We sail and fly here in NZ so could also leave our small yacht for use if there is any interest in this. Flying lessons could easily be arranged as well. We would be happy to take care of pets and gardens and would enjoy meeting your friends and neighbours.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The Nelson area is safe and exceptionally beautiful. We are at the top of the South Island, so a great place to explore from and the top tourist destination in NZ. At home we have a distant view of the snow-covered mountains in winter from the frontof the house, with a view of wooded hillsides at the geographical centre of NZ at the back. The house is at the edge of the town (10 mins on foot), with the beach about 10 minutes away by car, while the Maitai river runs at the bottom of our road. The climate here offers a wonderfully sunny and calm winter with cold nights but beautiful days - ideal for sailing, walking. The skifields are 1.5 hours away.
