Our home

Our home is a beautiful, architecturally designed 1930s residence in a truly picturesque setting. It offers stunning Wellington harbour and native bush views, and is just a minutes walk from lovely beaches. Lowry Bay is a premium location which is just minutes drive from the urban centres of Petone, Lower Hutt and Wellington. The home has character, comfort and offers in every way the perfect spot from which to experience New Zealand. The house is set in 1600 sq/m of private, established, gardens. It enjoys sun all day, abundant native birdlife, and there is even a stream with a little bridge in the garden.

FIRST LEVEL – Entry foyer, coat room, spacious living room with central heating, plush carpet, large TV, stereo, opening to a large sunny wrap around terrace with lovely views; dining room with native wood floor, an open fireplace, with a dining table that seats 10. Another sunny deck with sea and bush views; kitchen with a large modern oven for entertaining; separate laundry, and a guest toilet. The backdoor leads to a gate onto a private one minute walkway to Lowry Bay beach, which, like most of the beaches in this area, is very safe for swimming.

SECOND LEVEL – The sweeping spiral staircase from the foyer leads to two large bedrooms and a family bathroom, with a bath, separate shower and toilet. The master bedroom with a king size bed has a TV, stereo, walk in wardrobe and a deck offering spectacular views of the harbour. This is a great place to unwind and enjoy the stunning sunsets. The second bedroom is also large and sleeps 4, with a double bed, and a king single bed with an extra pull-out bed underneath. This room also has lovely sea and native bush views.

THIRD LEVEL – A second spiral staircase leads to a vary large split level bedroom with its own bathroom (shower and toilet). Here as well there are spectacular harbour views that allow you to watch ships dock at the pier. This bedroom has a double futon bed, TV, XBox, stereo and a second single bed.

STUDIO/LIBRARY – There is also a large, separate, fully setup studio/office hub/library next to the house.

As we are so close to the beach we can offer you our double kayak and a single kayak to paddle in the harbour. We also have 4 bikes, kids scooter and skateboard. Croquet set, petanque set, tennis raquets, footballs etc.
We have 2 Mercedes Benz cars. A classic V8 SEC560 coupe, and a more modern V6 C230 5 seater station wagon. Both vehicles are ideal for touring and the choice gives you the perfect vehicle for any type of excursion

Who we are

  1. Paul is a lawyer and Frances is a graphic designer and real estate consultant. Family is our top priority. We work hard as well, but find time to appreciate the arts, especially music and film. We all enjoy the oudoors, in particular swimming, kayaking and beach life in the summer, and snow sports in the winter. We love to travel and also enjoy offering hospitality to friends in N.Z and from overseas whenever we can. We have travelled to Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, USA, France, Italy and Switzerland - the latter being our first successful home exchange. We have chosen Lowry Bay as our home because it offers a fantastic seaside community lifestyle in a tranquil setting, while still being just minutes from the urban centres. Our children (now aged 15 and 10 years) have been taught to always be polite, and respectful of others and their property.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our home is located up a short private path from a pretty swimming beach, in a lovely, safe residential area surrounded by native bush. Our neighbourhood offers a wide variety of activities in a friendly community. You can swim, wind or kite surf, kayak, or go fishing on the harbour. There are many beautiful bush walks (for all levels of fitness) with some of them virtually at our doorstep. You can take the ferry to Wellington city, or stop off at Matiu Somes Island, and stay overnight there if you wish. Orca and dolphins are regular visitors to our harbour. You can take our bikes where you like, including to the south coast to visit the old 'Pencarrow' lighthouse. The options are endless in New Zealand. We are only a 5 minute drive around other beautiful bays from the friendly Eastbourne village with its library, art galleries, shops, swimming pool, tennis courts, parks, yacht and wind/kite surfing clubs, cafes, restaurants, delicatessen and the village pub. We walk down to the beach to buy fresh fish from local fishermen off there boat on Sundays.

The centres of Petone and Lower Hutt are just several minutes drive away for more cafes, restaurants, cinemas and anything else you might need. Lowry Bay enjoys close proximity to our vibrant capital city Wellington – with its world famous Te Papa museum and arts/entertainment scene. The city is only a 20 minute ferry ride away – or 15 minute scenic drive around the harbour. Lowry Bay is also an ideal base for any travel elsewhere in N.Z.

Take a day trip to the beautiful Wairapara wine growing region [60 minutes] or travel anywhere in the North Island with ease. Lowry Bay is less than 10 minutes drive from the main motorway routes of the North Island, and 15 minutes from the ferry terminal to travel to the South Island.
