Who we are

  1. We are Lorraine and John - moving towards retirement next year (2017), we have 4 sons now living and working in Auckland and Hamilton as well as Noosa and Melbourne and now we have four delightful grand daughters to visit as well.
We are so looking forward to making the most of our "senior years". There is so much of the world to do and see!!
Meantime our priority is to settle into and enjoy our new house and perhaps some house exchanges out there to enjoy as well. We have done just one non simultaneous exchange before which worked really well.
We are now keen to do more travel and learn more about another country and allow someone to see and live in the Hawkes Bay environment.
If you have interest please do email us - our main preferences are Noosa-Sunshine Coast, Southern Ireland, Scotland, Italy and Southern France.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The house is just 8 minutes walk to the Havelock North village shopping and public facilities (library, sports grounds, schools etc) which should satisfy most of your needs. Our 3 year old house is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac with 13 houses in total. Hastings city is less than 10 minutes by car and Napier city is just over 20 minutes by car - the airport near Napier approximately 25 minutes drive by car.
We are in the wine-country of New Zealand known for its red wine grown mostly on old dry river beds. Also Hawkes Bay produces the largest apple crop in NZ, and is surrounded by the Heretaunga plains used for croping and farming sheep and cattle. The district has many out door activities - walking, cycling, fishing, sporting activities as well as a number of cultural clubs and groups and tourist spots. The world renowned Cape Kidnappers gannet colony and the Cape Kidnappers Golf course recently rated as the 6th best in the world outside USA. In addition there are at least 4 other excellent golf courses all within 15 minutes drive. There are many quality wineries some with top class food and entertainment particularly in the summer months.
Havelock North is about 3 hours drive to the central North Island ski fields, 4 hours drive to Wellington and just over 5 hours drive to Auckland. We are lucky to have a relatively mild winter with temperature range about 12-18 degrees C with a few mid winter frosts then warming to summer temperature range of approximately mid 20's to sometimes low 30's. Several beaches are within 30 minutes drive away.
