Our house is sunny, comfortable and full of character. It is a Victorian villa, built in 1910. It is fully modernised with alll mod. cons. but retaining lots of character features such as open fireplaces, and orignal decorative ceilings. We have 3 bedrooms (the master bedroom having an en-suite) and two living areas. We have a formal lounge and an extended informal living area comprising a family room, a dining room, a kitachen and breakfast room opening ono the rear deck. We have a small private garden, with an outdoor jacuzzi.
We are keen collectors of art and have a Persian cat (who we could arrange to be fed by neighbours, if cats are not your cup of tea.)
We are a professional couple. Mike who is 54 is a Project Manager for a Management Consultancy. I am a Town Planner and work for the City Council. We have 2 sons, Ben aged 10 and William aged 9.
Mike and the boys are English and we emigrated to New Zealand 4 years ago from London. I am a New Zealander and Dunedin is my home town. While we love the more relaxed way of life in New Zealand, we do Miss London and our friends and family in England.
Our plan is to visit friends in Japan at Christmas (from 23 December until 3 Jan) and then travel to the UK for 2-3 weeks before heading off somewhere warm and sunny for a further week.
Our home is situated in Dunedin which is a characterful harbour city of 130,000 people with a heritage feel. Dunedin is a University City and the students and the arts give a special flavour to the city.
Dunedin is located on the coast with great beaches nearby (city beaches 3 km from the house.) The beaches are beautiful and popular for swimming and surfing, but the water is not warm!! We have two kayaks which we would lend to careful swappers!
You can see wildlife such as sealions and penguins in their natural habitats on Otago Peninsula which is within 40 mins drive of our home.
Dunedin also provides easy acess to central Otago, famous hostrically for its gold, now famous for its vineyards, ski fields, and alpine resorts, such as Queenstown. Queenstown is 3 hours drive. The Catlins, a unique coastal bush environment,( great for bush walks) is within 2 hours drive.
