Our home

Our home is a spacious American Colonial replica two storey character home built in the early 1960s. The house was designed by renowned local architect Alan Manson for himself, and has many special features including Kauri timber wall paneling, exposed beams and a unique Italian tiled floor in the conservatory. It has four separate living areas and three double bedrooms, all with ensuite. (We would like to keep one bedroom private in any exchange for storage purposes only)
There is a separate kitchen and a separate laundry/utility room plus a guest powder room downstairs apart from the four reception rooms. All bedrooms are upstairs and regrettably the property is not suitable for children.
The house has featured in several architectural magazines and admired for its unique three storey chimney that was one of the few still standing after the 2010/2011 Canterbury earthquakes. The house has been extensively remodelled and refurbished since 2013.
The grounds are well fenced, very private and there is a sheltered garden and a paved patio/BBQ area for outdoor entertaining adjoining the kitchen. There is a double garage and off street parking for two vehicles.
We have lived in this sought after neighbourhood for more than 13 years and have found it be perfect for our stage of life with so many activities and the CBD on our doorstep.

Who we are

  1. We are a recently retired fun loving couple in our early sixties who have been involved in both Real Estate Agency work and book sales for over 30 years. We adore animals and have become neighbourhood pet minders when we are in New Zealand. We love coffee culture, dining out, walking, reading, live theatre, music and we have been avid world travelers for over 40 years. We don't have children, so consequently we have managed to have many holidays abroad including a two year career break/holiday in 2003/2004 in England and Europe. We now have time to enjoy further extended holidays overseas which is why exchanging homes with like minded people is so appealing to us.
Our life plan now is to equally divide our time between home and away and are looking forward to many more years of travel and adventure in this next exciting stage of our lives.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Although we are very centrally located, Merivale is very treed, quiet and an extremely safe area in which to live.
We are only five minutes walk to Hagley Park and Golf Course, the Avon River, Mona vale and we are within 15 minutes stroll to the Christchurch CBD.
The Arts Centre, Canterbury Museum, Christchurch Art Gallery and the Botanical Gardens are all within walking distance, as are many great restaurants and cafes in popular Victoria Street and the city centre. We are also only minutes away to Merivale Mall and bustling Riccarton Road. We are able to attend many Christchurch events without using a car and are also on excellent bus routes to other areas of the city. The metro bus stop and prestigious Rangi Ruru Girls School are adjacent to our property.
After the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010/2011, much of Christchurch central city had to be rebuilt and now a new and exciting vibrant city centre has emerged with many new' green'pedestrian areas and cycle ways to enjoy..
* We are only 15 minutes drive to Christchurch International airport and within two hours drive to the some of the best South Islands ski fields. You can also drive to the wild and rugged West Coast or the Kaikoura Coast well within a day from here if you want to explore further afield.
