Our home

Our home is a detached 1920s Arts and Crafts bungalow with many period features. The panelled sitting room has a working fire-place and flat screen TV and opens onto the dining room (seats 8) through lead-light folding doors. The dining room opens onto the new kitchen with island bench, new appliances and window seat. Through the library area is the study and family room which has French doors opening onto the garden. There are four bedrooms, the master bedroom with a queen bed, three single bedrooms, a sun-room/extra bedroom, and two bathrooms, one with a bath and WC, the other a shower, WC and laundry. The house has wireless internet. We are currently underway with a complete renovation; the whole house is being repainted and updated- photos to follow soon.

The house has a private garden with fruit trees and mature planting. There is a garage and ample free parking on the street. It is on a quiet street five minutes walk from bus routes and the railway station. We have bikes and kayaks.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of six but only three of us will be travelling. My husband and I both lecture, he at University, me at Polytech. He has a sabbatical in Edinburgh in semester one, 2015.

Our three eldest children are at Uni or independent and our youngest is 12. He enjoys reading, biking, lego and minecraft. We love reading, music, walking, cycling and holidays. We have done one six month exchange for the last sabbatical and it was brilliant. We are hoping someone from Edinburgh might be interested in coming to Auckland for 3 to 6 months over December 2014 to June, 2015.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our neighbourhood is a quiet, leafy area in a vibrant inner city suburb. There are wonderful cafes and restaurants, parks, shops, a golf course, libraries, zoo and swimming pool within ten minutes walk. The beach and downtown are both five minutes in the car.

Auckland is set between two harbors and has 30 volcanoes. All year round people surf, sail, fish, kayak, bike and enjoy the many beautiful beaches. There are ice rinks, indoor ski slopes, climbing walls, aerodromes etc. Culturally there are many festivals eg Pasifika, museums, galleries and theatres.

Eden Park is an eight minute walk away, handy for the Cricket World Cup in March 2015. Or come see the All Blacks play, if you are a rugby fan.

The airport is 25 minutes drive away; the intercity rail and coach station five minutes drive.
