Our home

My home is a spacious and interesting house in the beautiful suburb of Titirangi (the "fringe of Heaven"), about 20km from Auckland's CBD. It is a peaceful spot, surrounded by beautiful trees and birdlife. My house has 3 levels and spiral stairs - very solidly built! The top floor comprises a huge double bedroom (also has a single bed) with views out over the trees. There is a large skylight window and the room gets lots of sun so is a very pleasant place to read a book in the afternoon. Off this bedroom is a large bathroom, with a shower and a sunken bath. The middle floor has the kitchen (all the usual appliances and plenty of space), lounge/dining room, bathroom/laundry, study and a second bedroom with a double bed. From the lounge there are sliding doors out to a deck on two sides of the house. This is a lovely place to have meals in good weather as there are lots of native birds to watch and listen to. The ground floor has the entrance hall and a self-contained flat (tenanted). My car is parked in a car port at the front door and would be available for exchange if required and subject to insurance requirements.

Who we are

  1. I am Robyn, a long-time widowed woman in my fifties. I am a professional librarian (but I don't really like reading!) and I work full-time at one of Auckland's two universities. I have lived in the UK twice and I like to return there for holidays as often as possible. My aim is to find a pleasant place where I can relax and live like a local for about 3-4 weeks. I have exchanged once before (London in Dec 2009/Jan 2010) and I am completely sold on this way of holidaying. I need an exchange partner who will care for my two very friendly and contented cats and I would be more than happy to look after someone else's loved cat(s). I won't be available to exchange until the second half of 2013.

Your neighbourhood

My house is set down a short driveway, which is partially shared with neighbours on both sides, and is in a quiet side street with a bus route at the end of the street for those who prefer not to drive. Titirangi Village, with a good range of shops and some excellent cafes, is just over 1km away. There is also a public library, local theatre, art gallery and a golf course not far away.
Titirangi lies on the edge of the Waitakere Ranges - an area of many bush walking tracks, stunning views and an opportunity to experience much of New Zealand's unique flora and fauna. The fabulous surf beaches of Auckland's West Coast are a short drive away.
The nearby suburb of New Lynn has a transport hub with a bus and train station.
Outside the rush hour, the drive to the centre of Auckland takes about 25-30 minutes. Auckland's motorways provide access to the North Shore (more lovely beaches across the Auckland Harbour Bridge) and to the south and east. Auckland is an ethnically diverse city with plenty of entertainment and cultural events.
