Our home

We offer our very special newly designed houseboat in the countryside near Amsterdam. Build in 2011, we've designed the houseboat ourselves with lot's of love for water and architecture. It's about 190 m2, very spacious, modern but comfortable at the same time. Right in the middle of nature, looking out over farmland and the river "De Vecht", you don't need a lot of entertainment; it's right at your doorstep. A refreshing dive from the terrace, ice skating in the winter, walking the area, visiting the beautiful mills, old villages and farms in the area and of course relaxing on the terrace or inside on the huge sofa with gas-fireplace.

The houseboat is very new and modern in a timeless way. The top floor has a small hallway with separate toilet, a large open area with a kitchen island, a solid wood diner table that fits 6+ people, a fireplace and a large sitting area.

Downstairs there's a master bedroom with a bath, next to this bedroom there's a bathroom with rain shower, toilet and 2 modern sinks. The hall area is used for drumming, playing music and there's a 4 meter desk which we use for work. There's a second bedroom with 2 single beds (which can be connected), this bedroom has a open bathroom area with shower, sink and toilet. There's a small room which can be changed into a bedroom with 1 bed or 2 beds for kids. There are 2 other rooms, one is used as a walk-in closet and the second one for the washing machine, dryer and storage.

Connected to the living room area there's a 20m2 terrace with view on the river, a small nature reserve and lot's of farmland. A small garden next to the houseboat is great for sunbathing in spring or late autumn.

There are 2 TV available, one in the sitting area and the other, small TV, in the master bedroom. There's wifi internet access and the kitchen has all modern equipment you need to make a great dinner. (steam oven, large freezer/fridge, oven, dishwasher, microwave). There's one bicycle but we can arrange some additional rental bikes. There's a small harbour in the area that rents out small motor boats and sailing boats.

The houseboat can easily fit 4 people but 5 or 6 is also possible with some adjustments.

Who we are

  1. We are Ezra; a fashion professional and e-marketing teacher, with a great love for design and architecture and Bert; an internet consultant totally crazy about music. Both of us have a great love for water and we've been looking for a great houseboat spot for more than 2 years. The second we checked out this amazing spot on the river we knew this was the right place. We designed the houseboat ourselves and in September 2011 we moved the boat to this beautiful spot. Ever since we've been in love with the area.

We love architecture and interior design but our house is not a 'museum', it's used for living, parties and dinner with friends. In the summertime we walk around in swimwear the whole day, jumping in and out of the water. Wintertime we love to make a small fire and invite our friends and neighbours for a beer.
We do care that visitors take good care of the house, just like we would do as well in someone else house.

We would love to exchange houses with similar couples or families and we are open to all kind off destinations. On our wishlist; Africa (Mozambique, Tanzania, Namibia, Madagascar). South & central America (Brasil, Argentina, Uruquay, Nicaragua, Guatamala, Mexico) Asia: (Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka) but we are also interested in European locations like Ibiza, Tenerife, Sicily, Sardegna, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and cities like Florence, Rome, Valencia, Lisabon and Marseille. We are open to suggestions!

OUR FIRST EXCHANGE PERIOD IS MID OCT; LOOKING FOR CANARY ISLANDS, MOROCCO, VALENCIA, SEVILLA OR OTHER WARM PLACES IN OR NEAR EUROPE.

SECOND EXCHANGE PERIOD IS MID DEC - MID JAN: LOOKING FOR SOUTH AFRICA, MOZAMBIQUE, ARGENTINA, URUQUAY, COSTA RICA, MEXICO. OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The houseboat is on the river "De Vecht", in between two small villages on a small rural road in the countryside but very close to the city of Amsterdam. It takes only 15 to 20 minutes by car or train. It's a true hidden gem right in the middle of nature but close enough to the city Amsterdam to go out for restaurants or shopping.

The houseboat is placed on a small dam with 11 other houseboats or ships. Although neighbours are close by, everybody has their own look out on a part of the countryside or the nature-reserve.

The small nearby village Vreeland offers some restaurants and a small supermarket. It has a Michelin star restaurant as well; De Nederlanden, Vreeland.

The area is well know for watersports, cycling and boating but also because of the beautiful manors in the area. There are some mills you can visit as well as the farms in the area. Most of all you'll enjoy the river, for swimming, ice skating or checking out all the birds, ducks and storks. (there are 3 natural stork nests which you can see from the terrace). Just take a book, sit yourself on the terrace, put some music on if you want, relax and look for the most impressive sunsets Holland can offer.

The houseboat is great for people who want to visit Amsterdam but who want to relax in a natural area after visiting the busy city. Other cities like Utrecht are close as well.

Kids love this area but they have to be able to swim as there's water all around. Small kids who can't swim yet have to wear a life jacket when outside.

One of our neighbours started a small catering company so there's a possibility to order breakfast, lunch or dinner for a good price.
