Our home

Our house is spacious, bright and located in a very peaceful and green neighbourhood. The ground floor consist of an open kitchen and livingroom with views on both sides. Our garden faces the south west and is almost completely edible (based on permaculture principles); if you have kids, they will love it!

The first floor has 3 bedrooms; one master with a double bed, one kids room and a study with a small balcony overlooking the garden (where a single bed can be put in if desired). The bathroom has a shower, bathtub and toilet; it’s pretty basic but does the job.

There is also a big attic, but we haven’t gotten around to doing anything with it. We have our washing machine and dryer there; the rest is storage space. In the garden is a little shed with one man’s bicycle and two kid’s bikes you are welcome to use. Renting an additional bike is ease, there are several places in Leiden providing that service.

Why we love our house
• Ideally located in a peaceful neighbourhood close to a historic town
• It’s bright and spacious, which is a rarety in overpopulated Holland
• Very child friendly, both the house itself and it’s surroundings
• Plenty of things to do close by, both for nature lovers and those who prefer culture and city life

Who we are

  1. We are Selena, Tim, Iza and Nila. Our two daughters are 1 and 3 years old. Selena is an anthropologist, bodyworker and lifecoach, while Tim's passion is food forestry and permaculture. We both speak English but Selena is also fluent in Spanish.

  2. We enjoy long walks in nature, good food and hanging out with friends and family. Before we had kids we loved to travel and that hasn't changed; we really enjoy showing them what is out there. Our home is our base camp and we treat it with care and respect, as we will do for yours.

Your neighbourhood

We live in a typical Dutch neigbourhood close to the historic city of Leiden (10 min bike ride or 15 minutes by bus). Fifteen minutes walk behind the house is a big lake where you can go swimming, sailing, canooing or walking. There is also a small shopping centre, children’s animal farm, golfcourse, sauna and indoor playground all within a 10 min walk. The beach is not far away: 20 minutes by car, 40 minutes by bike. And if you like flowers: be sure to visit the world renowned Keukenhof.

Leiden itself is a bustling, medium sized university town with a beautiful historic centre. There are 13 museums all within walking distance of eachother, as well as several theatres and cinema’s. If you like to eat out, there is a nice variety of restaurants and café’s to choose from.

The city centre is just twelve kilometres east of the North Sea coast. It is very well connected by train to Amsterdam (30 min), the airport (15 min), The Hague (10 min) and Rotterdam (30 min). There is free parking right outside the house and buses ride every 10 minutes to the central station and the city centre.
