Our home

Our new apartment was built in 2003, we are the first owners. We have our own front door, followed by a stairway leading to the second floor of the building.

On this floor you'll find a seperate toilet, a large kitchen with a table that easily seats 8, a storage room with a fridge, a freezer, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a microwave. Finally there's our southfacing living room.

On the third floor we have three bedrooms; we use one of the them as our office and another as our dressing room. Since there's only two of us, there's only one (king size) bed. If necessary, it's possible to place additional beds in the other bedrooms. There's a nice and southfacing roof terrace on this floor: sun from 10 AM till 18 PM. We'll leave our barbecue out there for you!

Our bath room has a large shower, a second toilet and a sink.

We've got a video system to watch people that ring our doorbell and a storage room on the ground floor, where we keep our bikes.

Who we are

  1. We're a Dutch couple (30's). I work as a manager for the local government and my boyfriend has got his own business, designing games for mobile phones.

We both grew up in smaller towns, but we love the "big village of Amsterdam" and our special apartment: the only 2003 block in a 1920's neighborhood.

I've got my employer to give me some time off to be able to travel and we've got big plans!

[EDIT 03-AUG-06]In June we stayed in New York in for almost two weeks and really want to come back in the near future!

[EDIT 11-SEPT-06]We will be exchanging our house with a great Australian-Dutch family from November 2006 till April 2007. They'll be here with their two sons, and we'll be in Melbourne during their summer, lucky us!

[EDIT 16-SEPT-06]Although this may seem kind of forward: I'm sure we won't be done traveling after Australia. On our list are bigger cities in the U.S. (New York, San Francisco) and Canada (Vancouver), a couple of weeks in a nice sunny place, but please suggest any other kind of exciting place! Dates are very negotiable!

We've traveled a lot and would really like to experience new places from inside out. Maybe you'd like to do the same in Amsterdam!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our neighborhood is called the "Dapperbuurt", on the edge of the old center of Amsterdam.

There are all sorts of people living here: 25% white singles & couples without children, 25% older Amsterdam people, 25% white families and 25% immigrant families. We love living here, but don't expect a suburban environment, this is the real Amsterdam!

Just around the corner, you'll find the second largest market in Amsterdam: fresh cheese, fresh fish and lots of white socks and horrible dresses every day! You'll also find two big supermarkets and a lot of other shops, all within crawling distance.

It takes about 10 minutes by tram (1 minute walk) to get to the very heart of Amsterdam, or 10 minutes on one of our bikes of course.

Amsterdam Zoo (Artis) is our back yard, just like the Oosterpark and the beautiful Tropenmuseum.

To get to all other museums, cinema's, nightlife and the bigger shopping areas takes about 10 to 15 minutes by tram.

Amsterdam Beach (North Sea) is only 30 minutes away, with direct access by train (3 minute walk).

You'll find all touristy must-do's within an hour from Amsterdam: Volendam, Delft, The Hague... and the rest of Western Europe in a couple of hours... and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport only takes about 30 minutes by train (door to door!)
