Our home

Our lovely red-anthracite houseboat is really something special. The usual comment of new people visiting our home is: 'Oh wow, it's so spacious!'. That's probably because many houseboats have low ceilings and few daylight. Well, ours is definately bright and open. There's a large kitchen, a nice livingroom, a study and three bedrooms. There is a bathroom with bath and shower and outside we have a lovely terrace where you can have a bbq or breakfast in the sun. You can also sit on the roof in our 'rocking chair' and watch the boats go by while drinking wine and discussing what next you are going to see in our lovely city. We live here for more than 10 years now with our 2 kids, and have no intention to leave. Well except for a holiday of course, maybe in your country!

Who we are

  1. My boyfriend Ruben (1972), our daughter Lieve (2002), our son Roman (2006) and myself (Annique, 1971) enjoy living in Amsterdam very much. But we also want to see the world. Ruben and I love travelling and try to keep on doing that with our children. Ruben is a policedetective and I myself work for the local government (city of Amsterdam) as a projectmanager for urban development. Lieve loves to play outside, is very into soccer and plays the drums (so yes, we have a drumkit, feel free to use it). Roman mostly likes to annoy his sister, but is actually very cute.. We have done over more than 10 exchanges since 2007. We went to Leuven, Berlin (2 times), Stockholm (Sweden), Split (Croatia), Rouen (France), a little town near Bonn (Germany), two times in our own country (Drenthe & Friesland), a beautiful Riad in Marrakech (Morocco), Paris, Valence, Valfroicourt (all 3 in France) and Bucharest (Romania). Our last exchange was at the eind of 2016 with a very nice apartment in Hamburg. All the exchanges were great and we are looking forward for another one in 2014. As you can see, we definately love the concept!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The boat is situated in the neighbourhood called 'Westerpark', wich is a very popular area in Amsterdam. Since Amsterdam is not a big city, all the things you want to see are within cycling or even walking distance (Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank house, shops, the Jordaan, the canals, etcetera). At the end of our street lies the so called 'Culturepark Westergasfabiek', a large lovely parc with many cultural events, festivals, playgrounds, restaurants, clubs and cafes. Our bikes, two for adults and two childrensbikes will bring you everywhere you want to go in Amsterdam! Of course you can use them during your stay. We also have a nice and comfortable motorboat (6 meters, steel) which you can use to go around the canals. From Amsterdam you can get to the beach of 'zandvoort' or 'bloemendaal' within 40 minutes of public transport.
