Our home

We live in lovely Amsterdam, across the IJ river north of central station. Our area is called Amsterdam Noord. It's a relatively rural area at less than 10 min from the city centre (bus or bike). Our house has three floors. It's not big but very comfortable. On street level we have the kitchen, dinner table and a spacious balcony at the back. Downstairs (basement floor) is the living room with garden doors towards the veranda and small garden. Upstairs we have the master bedroom (queensize bed) with a bathroom and seperate bath. A second couple (or kids) could sleep on a luxurious airbed in the livingroom. We have an extra bathroom with toilet on that floor.

Who we are

  1. My husband and I are in our early 40's, engineer and writer, without kids. We like cities and the countryside, culture and nature, eating and hiking.
We have a cat, we hope you will take care of him while we are away. We also own a dog but he will be with my sister if we have an exchange.
We have done succesfull swaps with London, Berlin, rural Spain, and Paris twice, but not since we moved to this house. So we have not exchanged with this house, but you will love it!
We have two bikes you could use, but only if you are used to cycle in the city.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live in a relatively rural area, close to the city centre of Amsterdam. Our street is quiet (hardly any traffic) and you could park your car for free in front of the house. Children play on the sidewalk. In front of the house is a nice park, the bakery is at the end of the street. So is a small grocery shop. Our street or 'dyke' is somewhat touristic because of the typical dutch houses. In our neighbourhood you could make nice bike rides, ore go jogging since the countryside is close. The bus stop is at 300m and within 5 min you are at central station. You could also go to town by bike and ferry (total trip takes you in less then 10 min. to central station). Central station is the gateway to the centre of Amsterdam. The city has a lot to offer for lovers of culture (museums/galeries), architecture (old and modern) shopping, clubbing, dining etc. It takes the ferry 1 min. to cross the water. The ferry sails every 6 min during the day and every 12 min at night (from 9 PM till 6 PM).
In Amsterdam Noord you will find some spectacular restaurants and in an industrial setting. Recently the new filmmuseum opened
