Our home

This apartment is colorful, clean and has everything you will need to make meals, use the wireless Internet, and relax. (The stove is not full sized, with 2 burners and a small oven.See Pix.) The bed is queen sized and sleeps 2 comfortably. For a child, I can provide a camping pad/mattress if you like.

We are 8 blocks from the main square, and the blocks are smaller than big city blocks, it takes about 15 minutes. We are equal distance from a big art center with many studios and galleries.

There are grocery stores, restaurants, art supply store, all within 5 blocks...and a gym too. The apartment is attached on one side of my home. It is at garden level, and has a private little yard. I share my patio which is large and sunny, when I am in Mexico, which is most of the time, and always the laundry room is shared with the house and apartment.

Property features

Who we are

  1. I am 65 and retired. I have never smoked. I want you to know that I have built a few houses, and have been a home-owner for over 40 years. I will take excellent care of your property, and will not let your plants die, or a leak go undetected.

I ask for a clean house to live in, and will keep it clean. Your property will be in as good or better shape when I leave as it was when I arrived.

I lived my whole life in California, US. In 2006 I decided to travel around Mexico and choose a place to live. I love to feel I am living an adventure, and now that Mexico has become "normal" to me, I need to travel more. I came here in part to pursue my love of art, and to dabble and learn more. My first foray into the 'art' world was to paint little metal frames/boxes, called nichos, that are made here in San Miguel. I put Barack Obama in them (I was so thrilled he had been elected), and called them 'Obama Boxes'. They were a big hit! I had a blast.

Now I am looking for more adventure. I spent 3 months in Europe in 1990 and always expected to go back "soon". But never did. In 1990 I exchanged with 2 different people, and it was a great experience. One exchange was an apartment in the heart of Paris, the other was in the center of Vienna. That was before the Internet, so making arrangements was quite different than it is now. In those days I lived in a suburb of San Francisco. Let me tell you, San Miguel de Allende is much more exciting!

What I am looking for: I am willing to exchange for as little as 2 weeks or as long as 4 or 5, if the location calls for it. I won't have a car (unless you loan me one), so I need to be in a good, central location. Somewhere near public transportation and restaurants, museums, galleries, etc. I do not want to be in rural, suburban, or industrial areas. I assume I will be traveling alone, but would like to be allowed, if there happens to be room, to invite a friend to join me now and then along my travels.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

San Miguel is an artist colony, so everywhere in town there are galleries. There is a large indigenous artisan market, and two very large Mercado for strolling and shopping for everything you need. All within 15-20 min walk. If you do not or cannot walk, the taxis are only 25 pesos.

A 15 minute drive by taxi (about 100-150 pesos) gets you to horse riding, hot springs, and other country delights!

San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with so much to offer, it is hard to get bored ever. Please watch these youtube videos and the web cam that is live in the main square, to see what it is like! The square is most lively on weekends and holidays:
