Our home

Casa Palapa is a unique 1,725 square foot private villa built by artisans. It sits alongside a glorious 50 x 50 foot mosaic tiled swimming pool, with a 7 foot weir that spills a spray over a seat in the pool overlooking the ocean and beach 50 meters below. There are a 10,000 square feet of poolside terrace and features. Custom made rugs, tiles and artifacts make this thatch roofed palapa a Baja showplace. The bedroom features a romantic king sized canopy bed, with a fabulous ocean view. Off the bedroom is a half bath with wrap-around windows revealing the same remarkable view. The large living room has satellite TV, a large saltwater aquarium, comfortable stuffed furniture, an 11 foot dining table and a spare single bed. The full kitchen includes pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc. A huge aqua tiled bathroom off the living area features a mosaic tiled tub, walk-in shower and large vanity.
For a family requiring more room we can also add Casita Dos - 100 meters away from the Casa Palapa. Casita Dos has two separate suites with a common (420 square foot) Sala - a covered open-air living room, that contains a refridgerator, and a hot plate.
The Casita Dos North Suite has 480 square feet of enclosed space, including a queen bedroom with desk area, a half bath and an anterooom that can contain a single bed. The artisan acqua carved bed and faux bois columns are quite unusual. Casita Dos has two separate suites with a common (420 square foot) Sala - a covered open.

Who we are

  1. We are a large family of friends and artists who came down to the Baja 17 years ago, to create an ecological oasis in the middle of nowhere. The houses are filled with original art and amazing details and personal touches that we have spent years lovingly creating. We are builders, and artists, and writers, and craftsmen by profession. Living in Los Angeles (2 hours by airplane) we started building a second vacation home, but over the years we found ourselves spending more and more time here, with our love for Mexico deepening. Some of us have become Mexican citizens. Living on the edge of the ocean the house itself reflects Mexican culture and architecture and craftsmanship. We are collectors. Our favorite things to do are to listen to classical music and Mexican music and wander though our gardens sitting by our fountains, enjoying good talk, good wine, good poetry, and just enjoying the magnificent views of mountains oceans and deserts. Some of the cactus in this desert are over 300 years old. It is a land with no human history and is wide open to the imagination, it is a place where you can dream. There is wonderful fishing here and it is one of the things that brought us here in the beginning. We like to travel with our grown up children in groups of 5 to 8.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Baja Sur has a world famous climate that enables outdoor/indoor living year round. All of our accomodations have unobstructed ocean views and are a 2 minute walk down our private path to our beach. The Casitas have private terraces and outdoor living spaces outfitted with comfortable chaise lounges, chairs and tables.

We run Villa del Faro as a Bed and Breakfast when we are not traveling but would like to offer it in exchange for our own travels. There is a maid who will offer an hour's worth of service daily and a car exchange is possible.
It IS NOT about shopping, barhopping or golf. Villa del Faro is an hour away from the nearest urban center and is very secluded. There is one small cantina nearby but mostly it is a quiet retreat for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, walking on white sands by turquoise water, and sitting surrounded by the most glorious desert mountains and ocean imaginable. Since there is no nearby civilization the stars at night are glorious and the sunsets and dawns over the mountains and ocean are breathtaking. Remember that the sun rises over the ocean on the Sea of Cortez.
Villa del Faro is an ecological wonder - the whole establishment runs on solar power. We have spent 17 years creating a self sustaining ecological estate. There is no air-conditioning but there are fans and a fairly dependable south breeze off the ocean. However it is tremendously hot in August and September.
