Our home

Home was completed in 2012. One of a kind. We do not rent. Home is Mexican modern designed by our architect son. Very private. 60 meters of ocean front. Gigantic salt water pool that includes a lap pool and a baby pool. Bicycles available.

This is our second home and exchange does not have to be simultaneous. Home is directly on the ocean and a five minute walk to a bay where you can swim/snorkel to the reef, swim with turtles, or sign up for a dive and/or walk on sandy beaches. 60 miles from Cancun airport. 20 minutes to Tulum. 30 minutes to Playa del Carmen for night life. Many restaurants within walking distance of home.

Poolside gas barbecue/kitchen for outside dining. Dining deck overlooking Caribbean. Great kitchen with long table for inside dining. Outdoor dining table in front of ocean. Outdoor dining table seating 8 in front of pool. All glass walls retract into walls for ocean breezes and wide open feel. Roof top deck for gorgeous views of ocean and sun setting at cocktail time.
Other activities: snorkeling, Mayan ruins, bicycling, cenotes, yoga classes within 5 minute walk, hiking, tennis court for rent, massages available on site.

Who we are

  1. Wife and I are retired psychologists who like to travel. Since we have a small villa (casita) on the property, we can accommodate guests in the new home even when we are there. Available year round. Comes with daily maid and caretaker.

We have two married sons who live in New York.

We enjoy riding our two horses, growing our gardens and exploring our woods on our farm in Indiana.

  2. We love bringing our children and 2 granddaughters on our trips when possible. Our home is on the sea (Caribbean), is 6 years old and is designed by our son. Home has a large salt water pool and is a 5 minute walk to sandy beaches and local restaurants. It provides water sports, swimming with turtles, snorkeling, diving and fishing. Very close to Mayan archaeological sites such as Tulum, Coba and Chichenitza. One hour south of Cancun airport and 20 kms to Tulum.
    Exchanging car is a possibility.

  3. Home has a large kitchen facing the sea. My wife loves to cook and so will you.
Relax in the hammocks or sit on one of many decks watching sun set while sipping wine or a margarita. Perfect for families.

We also have a 2 bedroom condo that can sleep 5 with 2 bathrooms in a new luxury apartment in Brooklyn that could be considered for an exchange as well. Only a 15 subway ride to Manhattan.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Akumal is a small beach community on the Yucatan Peninsula that caters to visitors desiring a laid back beach community with gorgeous beaches, fun restaurants and water sports such as diving, snorkeling, and just hanging out on the beach or poolside. Although there are many places to explore, you can do nothing, go nowhere, and love it. Very laid back. Bathing suits and shorts. Shoes optional. No large hotels. Great sandy beaches and palm trees.
If you get bored, there are several artisan and gift shops. Famous Yal-Ku Lagoon for incredible snorkeling is one mile further down on our road.

Tulum with its great beaches, Mayan ruins, and world class restaurants is 14 miles south.

Playa del Carmen: upbeat international destination for shopping, restaurants, exploring, night clubbing 20 miles north.

Puerta Aventuras: swim with dolphins, spend day strolling, kids love it. 10 miles north

Bahia Principe: World class golf course (expensive/rent clubs) 2 miles south at Riviera Golf Club

In addition, there are several ecological water parks (Xel-Ha and Xcaret) and cenotes that are nearby.
