Our home

Our spacious home is in the outskirts of Nairobi, a leafy suburb called Karen. Its quiet, green, spacious and safe.
We have a gorgeous big garden with plenty of mature trees and lots of garden toys (swings).
We enjoy an beautiful bird life (binoculars and identifying books closeby) and once in a while a cheeky monkey comes to visit us to try steal the bird food.
The house has a spacious kitchen, large living room with fireplace and french doors onto our veranda with view of the Ngong Hills.
We have a main -ensuite- bedroom with a double bed and balcony and 2 childrens rooms. There is also a study and guestroom with a double bed and an addiotnal bathroom. Both bathrooms have a bath to enjoy a warm bath on a cold nairobi evening.

The house is spacious, secure and light.

We have young kids so ample toys!

We share our house with two cats that love to cuddle and a dog called Maluka (she is an outside dog). We also have some chickens.

The garden is looked after our gardener Sylvester and we have a nanny/houselady called Beatrice who helps us with our kids and also keep our house clean and tidy. Beatrice lives in a little cottage in our garden. They would be available to whoever comes into our house.

Who we are

  1. Hi- We are a Dutch-English couple with 3 young children.

  2. We originally met in Angola where we were both doing development work, and then moved to Mozambique for nearly 9 years and are now based out of Kenya. Andrew currently works in investment and Evy runs a start-up. We are the proud parents of Kit, Sam and Archie. All very spirited boys who love trains, Spider-Man and roaring like lions.

  3. We enjoy nature and going on safari, cycling and exploring cool new playgrounds. Our boys love climbing trees and racing on their balance bikes. We are both terrible cooks and enjoy going out for dinner....

We try to our family in Holland and the UK at least once a year, a home swap seems like the perfect way to "feel like a local again" and to see our friends and family.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Karen is an suburb of Nairobi in Kenya, lying south west of Nairobi central business district. The suburb of Karen borders the Ngong Forest. It is generally believed that the suburb is named after Karen Blixen, the Danish author of the colonial memoir Out of Africa; her farm occupied the land where the suburb now stands.
Karen is green and leafy, not at all like the busy hectic city of Nairobi. Unlike the rest of town- we have no traffic problems here.
The area is calm, safe and secure with many large hotels and luxery guesthouses attracting tourists.
We are a quick trip over the bypass to and from the airport- no traffic jams!
Because we are so close to the national park, there are lots of "animal related" things to do close by, like the elephant orphanage, the giraffe centre, Mamba village for crocodiles and of course the national park itself.
