Our home

We live in a 1970's rural two story home with 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. The ground floor has a dining room, living room, kitchen, 1 bedroom, and full bath. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, 1 full and 1 half-bath, a large study/library and the laundry room. Our two Italian cats are indoor/outdoor felines and are not allowed in the human living spaces. The large covered front porch terrace looks out on our side yard, a cherry orchard, and rising forested hills with nestled picturesque church. There is also a BBQ for outdoor grilling. Our large landscaped yard has a variety of gardens, flowering shrubs and fruit trees. Our small back porch looks out on our back yard with orchard, a vinyard, and our village church. Our hills are laced with many delightful hiking trails and farm lanes that lend lovely views and panoramas of our area.

Who we are

  1. I have taught for DoDDS (Department of Defense Dependents Schools) Italy for the past 18 years: 6 years in Naples and now 12 years in Vicenza. My wife, Mary, is retired from teaching ESL and now runs our lovely home. We have 2 sweet Italian cats that have learned basic English and enjoy sleeping, playing in the gardens, or sitting near us (or on us) when we sit out on our patios enjoying the views of our surrounding hills, church steeples, cherry orchards, vinyards, and olive groves. An important part of your agreement to stay in our house is taking on the responsibility of feeding and caring for our cats, who will happily reward you with abundant love, purrs, and gratitude.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our village is located in the Berici hills about 16 kilometers (10miles) from Vicenza. There are at least 30 restaurants/trattorias within a 20 minute drive from our house. There are no stores in, nor bus service from, our wee rural village and you will need to have a car in order to enjoy your stay in our home. Your visit will be complete only if you have the convenience of your own transportation with which to do your shopping, to take drives through the picturesque back roads to local Palladian villas, small quaint villages, historic sites, ancient towns, walled cities, and through green forests and fruit orchards, past silvery olive groves, and of course to the ubiquitous Italian vinyards and wineries (there are six wineries located within five minutes from our house). A day trip can also take you to the luxurious mineral spas of the nearby volcanic Euganei hills as well as to a small train station where you can park free all day and take the train to Venice (the trip takes about an hour and costs about $10 roundtrip per person).
We are centrally located for easy daytrips to Verona, Padua, Cittadella, Bassano, Treviso, Ferrara, beaches on the Adriatic, Lake Garda, Asolo, Asiago, and many other delightful and historic destinations of the Veneto. All summer long in Vicenza and the villages of the Veneto there are many outdoor summer festivals ("festa" and "sagra") that feature local cuisine, live music, and dancing.
Buon viaggio!
