Our home

Our home is a beautiful villa just outside central Rome and part of the famous Sabine hills. In 2004 we decided to leave the hustle and bustle of London city life for a healthier and happier environment. We bought 13 thousand sqms of land covered with olive trees, fruit and grape vines and in part of this land we built a villa. The villa is 350sqms and is on 3 levels: Ground floor we have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living and dining area and a big fitted kitchen. A thermo-wood fireplace which heats all 3 floors and hot water, solar panels and photo voltaic energy. We have a balcony that surrounds the whole villa with a front porticato, exploited most of the year round for entertaining and eating out. We have a front garden with a traditional pizza bread oven and 1 meter wide BBQ area - this summer we spent most of our time making pizzas and having guests over in the evening. There is ample space for a 4 -5 meter swimming pool, which we generally prepare around June for the children (school holidays start mid June in Italy). Second floor comprises 3 large bedrooms, terrace for breakfasting, if desired and a massive traditional bathroom. Everything has been decorated in a modern and beautiful Italian style. The back of the villa which is lower than the front garden area, also has a completed kitchen and living area and cellar - we are in the process of completing 70 sq-ms which will give us a further 3 bedrooms. We have planted orange, lemon, and fruit trees and have our own chickens. You can walk down into our land from the back garden area and picnic, camp or whatever takes your fancy. We plant and grow our own organic vegetables all year round, we make jams tomato preserves, salami, prosciutto etc... There is a great more I could add but I'll try and get some photos of the interior done asap.

Who we are

  1. I commute every day and find I have the advantage of being in two worlds: the mountains, hills, pure Mediterranean countryside and then Rome City!!! I live with my husband and 2 children. Our Son is 25 yrs old and our daughter is 9. I work for a well known TV company - it is also based in London but I think, the weather is what first attracted our attention and made us want to change our city habits. Our daughter was born in Italy and in Narni, Umbria. We love our home and we would love to take our love for the area to the next stage: we would love to start a bed and breakfast. There are many English, Dutch and Americans in Sabina - they have discovered that the area is just as beautiful as Tuscany and can offer the same delights and if not more...http://www.comune.torriinsabina.ri.it/

Your neighbourhood

Torri in Sabina is a small beautiful medieval town on the outskirts of Rome; all the villages and towns found in Sabina are old medieval castles and many have part of their name 'poggio' meaning hill. They people believe in their traditions and from mid spring onwards there are festivals almost every other day. The festivals are a celebration of food, music, fireworks, each area will have its own specific food to offer. There is no time to get bored and it is a time when families are out until midnight, enjoying food, drink and entertainment. Many of these festivals will be religiously connected - so you will see the processions of people following their patron saint down the narrow decorated petal decorated roads and the brass band will follow these processions. There are many places and towns to visit - Sabina is only 40kms from Umbria (San Francesco) and the famous town of Narni which inspired C.S. Lewis in the Chronicles of Narnia. The train station is only 10 mins away from my home and Rome is only 35mins away by train and car. http://www.gosabina.com/gallerie/
