Our home

Our apartment consists of half the top floor of an old pallazo in the village of Piegaro. The 2 bedrooms sleep 5 people and the kitchen dining area has superb views over the Umbrian hills. It is a very neat and tidy apartment with all the things you would require in a holiday home.

Who we are

  1. We, Bill and Lucia, live in Tallangatta, a rural town 350 km North East of Melbourne. We are retired from running our own business and Bill was a high school teacher for many years. Whilst we enjoy Europe we also like to holiday at Australian destinations, especially coastal locations. Lucia is of Italian heritage and whilst speaking the language is a great help in small Italian villages it is by no means essential. If anything being a non native speaker can enhance and add to you holiday experience. We have had 15 exchange groups to our Italian home since 2012 and the response/feedback has been just great. As our 4 children are now grown up we feel it is time to share our little piece of rural Italy and experience what others may have to offer.

We are open to exchanges to beach side location within driving distance of our home in Tallangatta as well as other locations/countries within a 10 hour drive from our home in Umbria. We have found the most enjoyable time to visit our part of Umbria is in the Spring and Autumn. Summer, especially in August, can be very hot and Winter quite cold with snow on the hills etc.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Piegaro is a village of about 1000 inhabitants. It is also the head of the municipale that consists of about 12 surrounding villages and as such it has the municipal offices, post office, 2 bars, 2 food stores, butcher, doctor, pharmacy etc. Most importantly it has an excellent restaurant that serve beautiful food at most reasonable prices. It is difficult to describe the attributes of this village/area but if you are at all interested we can suggest internet sites that will give you a great deal of information on the village, the area, things to do and see etc.etc. You can find out more information just by Googling "Piegaro Italy"

Whilst a car is not essential we would suggest driving is the best way to see this beautiful part of rural Umbria and Tuscany. We always hire a car on our regular visits and by doing so you will get a taste of Italy that many tourists do not get to experience. We purchased our apartment here after a number of visits to Umbria so we could enjoy the real Italy and village life. Piegaro is big enough to have all the services you require and yet small enough to really feel a part of the place after a few days stay.

Piegaro is perfectly situated to explore some of the most stunning Italian cities and towns. Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Orvieto, Siena, Castiglione del Lago. Plus all the hidden "gems," they being the many small villages that dot this part of the Umbrian country side.
