Our home

The house is situated on the top of a hill, just half an hour's drive from Florence. Our section of the house is on two floors and is located in the central part of a five-hundred-year-old Tuscan farmhouse (divided into three apartments). It is surrounded by greenery and has fantastic views in all directions. The area is beautiful and very quiet. A major motorway (the Florence - Siena superstrada) is easily accessible - just five minutes away by car.

Who we are

  1. I am originally from Ireland and have lived in Italy for twenty-three years; I work as a freelance accountant. My partner, Carolina, works as an administrator and speaks Italian, English, French and German. We are aged 55 and 53, respectively. We have swapped houses five times already, traveling to Spain, Portugal, Germany, Thailand and Ireland. All VERY positive experiences. We also swapped cars, which worked out fine: usually leaving the car at the airport for the other couple to pick up as soon as they arrived. I look forward to hearing from you; we are open to visit anywhere in the world.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The house is very convenient for visiting Florence, which is about twenty minutes away by car. The world centre of Renaissance art has innumerable attractions beyond the Uffizi Galleries, Michelangelo’s David and the shops of the Ponte Vecchio.

A half hour drive to the south of our house lies Siena, city of the Palio horserace with a treasure trove of art and architecture in the historic streets and piazzas centred around the monumental Duomo. Arezzo, 50 kilometres away, is the home of the poet Petrarch and the painter Giorgio Vasari. Born nearby were Michelangelo and Piero della Francesca, whose frescoes in various churches have become the targets of pilgrimages by art lovers.

From our house you can tour Tuscany, visit San Gimignano and the other famous art cities of this beautiful region. The house is about an hour's drive from Pisa and the Tuscan coast (for swimming in the Mediterranean). From Florence, Rome is just 1 hour 40 minutes away by high speed train. Venice is two and a half hours away by train from Florence.

We can give you tips on places to visit. Some examples: Volterra, the (free) thermal baths of Petriolo, Lucca, Prato, Radda in Chianti, Monteriggioni, Monte Amiata, Orvieto, Pistoia, Pitigliano, Bologna, Ferrara, Verona, Perugia, Ravenna, Padua. The choice is vast.
