Our home

Our house is a typical Tuscan one, just two hundred meters from Boboli Gardens, the most beautiful “Italian garden” in Florence. It's on the ground floor, very fresh in summer and warm in winter and has indipendent heathing.
It has the typical ceilings barrel vaults, wooden beams, cotto floors (living room, kitchen and study) or wooden floors (bedrooms). It consists in two adjoining apartments, with two separate entrances. The smallest (three beds: a large double bed and a single bed in the basement) is a wooden studio on three levels (ground floor, wooden loft and the basement), fully equipped with a bathroom and a small kitchen in the basement. It can be used separately, so if you are three we can carry out exchanges even in different periods!.
The larger apartment consists in a living room with a double sofa bed and a piano and a very large and bright kitchen where we all gather to have lunch or spend time, overlooking the inner garden, as well as two other bedrooms (three single bed) and the bathroom: they are all around the garden. At the center of the garden there is a persimmon, that provides shade and coolness, expecially in summer. In the garden there are deck-chairs, one table and chairs to have breakfast or dining.
The house is very old, dating back to XVI Century, but It is perfectly equipped with Speed WiFi, Flat screen TV, Bt stereo. We love our home and will take great care of yours.

Who we are

  1. We are Paola (51) and two sons: Alessandro (16) and Elisabetta (14). We have also a little dog, which spends all its time sleeping in the garden...
I teach Italian Literature at Bologna University, and I have been working for years in a publishing house, so our house has plenty of books, both ancient and new, in Italian or other languages. When you come back home and are a little bit tired, you can read a good novel relaxing in the garden!
My sons and I love listening to music and watching videos, so we have many CD and our dining and sleeping room have all a Bt stereo; I love cooking, and my kitchen is fully equipped with little household appliances.
We love to travel and every summer we make a journey in Europe, with my sister and her daughter. Sometimes we have been exchanging our house with friends, so we have decided to join home-for-exchange: a real good idea to know local people and culture and taste the real atmosphere of a place.
I hope you'll love our home and city as much as we do!!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our house is in "Oltrarno" (on the other side of Arno river), close to Piazza di Porta Romana, ten minutes walk to Pitti Palace and Santo Spirito, a very romantic and ancient part of Florence, known for its artisans workshops, coffee bar and typical restaurants. Crossing Ponte Vecchio, in a few minutes walking, you can reach the very heart of Florence: Palazzo della Signoria and Piazza Santa Croce (wonderful to visit, not suitable to live, crowded and warren...). Our apartment is at the ground floor of a small building in a quiet street from which you can easily reach by foot also the tree-lined streets that lead to the famous Piazzale Michelangelo. We love our place because is close to the center, but surrounded by villas and trees.
There are bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood, a little open air market just in Porta Romana Square, a supermarket (Sunday open 8 AM-14PM!), cozy shops and stores.
Public buses are nearby, but the better way to explore Florence is by feet or by biclyce... We have two bikes we can provide to you to drive around the city!

The location is perfect to visit Florence, but also to move in Tuscany, as the house is not far from Highway A1 - Impruneta, few hours (N) to Bologna and Milan and (S) to Rome and Naples. An opportunity not to be missed is a visit to Siena, which can be quickly reached with a bus that stops right in Piazza di Porta Romana.
