Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

It is a complex of 7 villas and neighbors are very quiet and polite.
Domus de Maria is located in the deep south of the island and its territory contains a myriad of breathtaking natural wonders, ranging from the splendid and renowned beaches of the hamlet of Chia to the mountains abounding with luxuriant woods. In fact, the area is characterized by long beaches with imposing dunes where age-old junipers grow undisturbed and by granite peaks and luxuriant woods where it is not unusual to come across deer or boars. The Mediterranean shrub is also of rare beauty with all its endemic essences of strong perfumes and enchanting colours.
The village sprang up around the XVIII century as a farm founded by the Scolopi Fathers. The territory has been inhabited since the Nuraghic Age, as shown by the “Baccu Idda” Nuraghe and the numerous betilic stones of “Punta Su Sensu”. The town of Bithia was of extreme importance and is found today within the hamlet of Chia. It was of Phoenician-Punic layout and stretched over the headland of the tower where even today, the remains of the outer wall and the dwellings are still visible. A necropolis has been made out in the lower part of the inhabited area where a temple dedicated to the god Bes was erected. The statue is in perfect condition and is preserved in Cagliari’s Archaeological Museum. The "tophet”, a cremation cemetery for still-born children or anyone dying young, was located on a little island in front of the coast.A stop must be made in this area, if only to visit the vast snow-white beach at Chia or to admire the marvelous woods of Is Cannoneris, where it is not unusual to find “ovuli” and “porcini” mushrooms. One of the events that cannot be missed is the “Fig Festival”, the sweet and succulent fruit of the Chia area, the “Fish Festival” in the month of May and the Feast of "S'Arroseri" in honour of the Madonna del Rosario, the Patron Saint of the village, which is celebrated on the first Sunday in October.
