Our home

We live in a converted hayloft/stables in a fortified 13th century hamlet. The house is on three floors and has terracotta floors, brick-vaulted ceilings and wooden beams. It has all mod cons (dishwasher/ washing machine/satellite TV etc.) and sleeps 6 people comfortably with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It has two outside eating areas - one in the inner courtyard and one in the garden where you can have a barbecue. Internet is available.

Who we are

  1. I am Irish and have been living in Italy for over 20 years. I teach English at Florence University. My wife, Raffaella, is Italian and works as an IT specialist for the Italian motorways. We have two daughters, Jessica, 28, who works in Paris for a publishing house and Erica, 26, who works as a doctor in Florence. My wife and I love travelling, hiking, tennis and skiing. We have recently been to Botswana and Zimbabwe on a photographic safari. We have a holiday apartment in Croatia on the island of Krk. The resort is called Baska and the flat could be available for a non-simultaneous swap. Here are some photos of Baska:

Your neighbourhood

The house is situated in beautiful countryside 14 kilometres from the center of Florence. The house is in a 13th century hamlet which is a listed building of great architectural and cultural interest. It is an ideal location for relaxing after visiting Florence and for exploring other places of interest in Tuscany. For those who like hiking, there are several walks which start from our front doorstep. A car is recommended. We have two bikes which are fine for use in Florence where it is flat but it is a bit hilly where we live so you would have to be fit to ride a bike! However it is ideal for mountain bike enthusiasts.
