Our home

Our home is located in the 1000-year-old historic village "Buggio", from Nice Airport, France, a good hour by car.
The house was remodelled in 2007 with consideration to everything original. It has a small top terrace with a magnificent view of the valley/river/mountains. It is a very quiet place and I use it as a get-away for writing and to relax alone or with my now adult children.
The house has stairs and is not suited for younger children nor disabled adults.

There is WIFI in the house. Cell phones can be used on the terrace. We have purposely chosen not to let a TV disturb us when being here.
There is a washer, but to dry the clothes we hang it like the locals do.

If you want to experience Italy in a typical Italian cultural way, this is your chance. If you would like to, my local Italian friends will introduce themselves upon your arrival and be available for any help.

July is always taken by my kids, and the month of August goes every year to my trade family since 2009, from Balboa Island CA.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are Helle (1960) and living out kids born in -84, -85, -93, -96, -97. The kids were born in Laguna Beach Ca., where we lived for ten years.

  2. Helle, a reg. nurse, spent a decade in the Danish movie industry as a personal assistant for a film director, but is now the founder of "Sistaenable" (=sustainable), an org. promoting gender equal rights world wide.

  3. Buggio is the place we all get together at least once a year. As a family we have always spent a lot of time doing things together and we all love a good debate over a book or a film or politics or travels.
We were all raised with etiquette, and take well care of own as well as other peoples belongings - we naturally expect the same :).

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The first houses in town were build around year 800. My house is from the 17th century and located within the village walls.
The village is ancient, and historic, so there are no cars on the streets. We have four parking lots and the house is located two minutes from here. A different, and very charming, experience.

The church square next to the house is the local place to meet, and most evenings are spent there. Kids play together and adults sit and talk.

You find restaurant "Ca de Na" just up the street from the church square; excellent food, very authentic place - and other than this, the village has nothing but its great quietness to offer.
Only three kilometers away is another ancient village Pigna, which is larger and has restaurants, bank, bars, butchers, post office etc. I can especially recommend Fabio’s café, where his wife Monica daily creates a dream of sweets and 15-20 different icecreams, all made the old way. Also Georgia’s lunch restaurant “La Posta” is definitely worth a few visits - she also makes her menu from scratch.

The area around town is all grown or national park, and well known for its hiking paths; four hours up you find a great plateu with 50 wild horses. And the road from the Med to Buggio, is a well known bicycling route.
We swim in the lake nearby the house.

Only 23 kilometers away is the Mediterrenian ocean; beach towns like Menton (France), Ventimiglia, Bordighera and San Remo are vithin an hour drive. Within an hour and a half you can visit Monaco, Nice, Cannes on the Côte D'Azur. Along the coast and in the back country you will find a mix of everything from well known museums to small local restaurants to jet-set invironment.
And having spent the day there, you will really appreciate your quiet time when returning home.

Best restaurants
Ca de Na, our local agriturismo in town
Nightlife
Dancing with the Stars, can be done from anywhere, we have no light pollution.
Favourite cafés
Fabio in Pigna. Or a picnic basket on the hillside.
Where to go shopping
The market in Ventimiglia has everything in fresh fruits and vegetables, small stands with meat, fish, cheese, and a wine seller.
Your area's cultural and historical landmarks
The small chapel next to the village was the first in the valley and built around year 800. Pigna has a nice museum for local history. Ventimiglia as well. Hanburrys Garden in Ventimiglia is worth a visit.
Local walks
Every where around the village you find loads of hking paths, we are well known for hiking.
Places you love to exercise
The garbage bin is located outside the village, and every household walks there with their trash, which you divide into different bins :)
Top day trips
The market in Ventimiglia is Europe’s largest outdoor market, on Fridays. Come early to secure parking. On Thursdays a smaller market is in Bordighera.
