Our home

It's a two-century old house, where my grandfathers used to live, and someone else before. It has been recently restored, without loosing its antique charme. The high ceilings and the thick walls keep it fresh in the hot summertime, and warm during winter. That's why it doesn't need central heating or air conditioning. But you will find electric fans in case of need. I use to spent here my summer holidays, because it's the perfect place to get rid of the stress and everything. It's in the historical centre of a beautiful and noble village sorrounded by olive trees and vineyards called Alessano, whose XVII century buildings, in baroque style or even older, and countryside will make you fall in love. By the way the house is just in front of one the most gorgoeus pastry shops in the whole Puglia, and a couple of minutes walk from a typical trattoria and other gourmet surprises. In the house you will find everything you need, like famous local ceramics or some good piece of antiques. But it is not and it's not meant to be a luxury house. On the large terrace - mind the stairs - you could prepare your own barbecue with freshly caught fish, and take undisturbed sunbaths. In the well-known Taranta night in the summertime you will see singers and dancers gathering a few steps away from your door, and every Monday a colourful market will call you in the street outside your door...

Your neighbourhood

Alessano is in the heart of Capo di Leuca, just 4 miles away from the fantastic cliffs of Marina di Novaglie and Il Ciolo, on the Adriatic Sea, where you can easily swim or - if you dare - jump (better not to do it) from the bridge. In a breathtaking ride on the panoramic road you can easily reach the medieval Otranto, mirror yourself in the crystal-clear water of Castro, or just relax under the modejar architecture of the termal resort of Santa Cesarea Terme. If you are fond of sport, many schools can help you to explore the rich seabed or teach you the secrets of kite-surfing on the sandy Alimini beach. But this is only the Adriatic side. Salento is like and island, so when the wind blows on one side, on the other it's usually calm. You will choose your side every morning, talking to locals in front of a cappuccino and a pasticciotto, a surprise you will miss throughout your life. Alessano is only 7 miles away from the beautiful Ionian beach of Pescoluse. There you are in the middle of a 20 miles strip of white sand that runs from the romantic Gallipoli through the ancient Ugento till Santa Maria di Leuca, where the two seas melt in the hug of Mediterranean. White Santa Maria di Leuca, with the sanctuary, the lighthouse, the promenade, is the last pearl of Puglia. These are a few words about the shore. Then you have the small villages, Lecce and its hundreds churches, and much more, starting from food and wine. But there is no room left for words...
