Our home

The cottage is 200 years old and used to be a ships chandlers and quay until the 1950's. It formed part of the famous Tintern Estate established by the Cistercians in the 12th Century. We have renovated the cottage in a traditional style - flagstone floors, open fire, wooden floors and traditional style furniture. This is a much loved holiday home and we spend as much time there as we can. The cottage is located in a townland called St. Kierans and is very quiet and relaxing but only 30 mins drive from Wexford and Waterford. The location is famous for fishing and we get many international visitors to the area during the fishing season.

The house faces south and there is a lovely sunny patio. The best place to be though is the pier - which is private and forms part of the grounds of the house. It's the perfect place to have a barbecue, a glass of wine, and watch the sun set. We swim from the end of the pier when the tide is full and the kids have a great time jumping in and out.

Although the house is old, we have central heating, power shower, bath and all mod cons.

The house is located at the top of Hook Head - the home of the oldest operational lighthouse in Europe and a great place to visit. There is plenty to see and do locally, Tintern Abbey, Johnstown Castle, Kilmore Quay, Waterford City etc. but is also an ideal location to get away from it all.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of four - my husband, Colm and our two children - Jack (15) and Megan (12). We are in our forties and love to travel with the kids. We live and work in Dublin, and as the children are still in school we are a bit tied to travelling during the school holidays. We like to avoid the typical tourist destinations when we go on holidays, which is why we thought we might try a home exchange this year - we've never done one before.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The cottage is located on a very quiet country road which runs around Bannow Bay. There are large entrance gates to the property, and very little traffic - only a handful of people actually live locally.

The little village of Saltmills is about 5 minutes drive away and there is a lovely traditional pub there with music during the summer months. There are plenty of good pubs and restaurants within a short drive.

The cottage is about 30 minutes drive from Rosslare Harbour, and the ferryport. It's about 2hrs 30 mins from Dublin, and 40 minutes from Waterford airport.
