Our home

Welcome to Schull in the heart of scenic west cork. A two hour drive from Cork city (1 and a half hours from Cork Airport) Schull is located in West Cork - the far south-west of County Cork, Ireland. Schull is an idyllic place to stay or visit along the Wild Atlantic Way. The prevailing south-westerly winds come over more than 2000 miles of open sea and the air is marvellously clear and clean. The safe and welcoming harbour, the many islands off-shore and the Atlantic Ocean beyond, provide an excellent base for watersports. There is also tennis, pony trekking, a planetarium, fine restaurants, good accommodation, a boatyard, a weekly country market and a peninsula rich in archaeology and wildlife. It is wonderful country for walking and cycling and an excellent area for holidays, in winter and summer.
Please visit www.schull.ie for a full picture of this spectacular place and all it has to offer.

Our home, at Colla Pier in Schull, is located right next to the sea, and a walk away from the pier where you can moor a boat or take a ferry to visit local islands. The cottage has all the modern conveniences and comforts of home, a short walk of about 3kms to Schull village, along winding waterside roads, with such magnificent views that it will take twice as long as normal to get to Schull, but after which you will have earned your breakfast or lunch or coffee!

The cottage is finished to a very high standard, and is exceptionally well fitted out and decorated throughout. There is a wonderful array of art by local artists of the islands, including paintings, furniture and bog oak sculptures, all of which evoke a real sense of what West Cork has to offer. The patio is open, with a BBQ provided and provides immediate access to the stone beach below. The cottage has
- High speed broad band
- four bedrooms, two double and two twin.
- The master bedroom has a bathroom en-suite with electric shower.
- The main bathroom has an electric shower and two wash hand basins, as well as plenty of storage room.
- There is an exceptionally well-fitted out kitchen which is airy and bright, overlooking the sea and the busy pier beyond.
- Bed linen provided, as well as all necessary wares etc.
- No pets
- No smoking

Who we are

  1. Dave and I are in our early 50's, live in Cork city. Dave is in shipping and I am a mediator. Schull has been our holiday destination for many years. Our children, who are now 25yrs and 27yrs, have many years of happy memories in Schull - they learned how to sail and made many life long friends over their years there. With the kids now doing their own thing, we are looking to travel a bit and are open to considering any interesting offers. We are both golfers and really interested in accommodation on/near golf clubs.

Schull is a vibrant sailing and fishing village in beautiful West Cork, with local restaurants, artisan shops, art galleries, pubs, local markets and music. The friendliness of the locals, the wonderful walks, the long unspoilt beaches, the views of Fastnet rock and beyond combine to make this area a gem in the tourist trail of Ireland. Within a short distance, visit Mizen Head, (www.mizenhead.net) which is an award winning Maritime Museum and Heritage Attraction, this authentic all-weather experience is a must-see with its spectacular location on high cliffs with swirling Atlantic Ocean tides. From the Car park and Visitor Centre, the Signal Station is a ten minute walk along the path, down the 99 steps and across the Arched Bridge, the Mizen is famous for its wildflowers and sightings of wildlife, dolphins, whales, seals, gannets, kittiwakes, choughs – the bird migration north-south flight path is just a mile off shore. (visit www.schull.ie)

A short journey brings visitors across the County bounds to Kerry and the wonderful world renowed tourist attractions that this area has to offer. Lady's View, The Conor Pass, Killarney, Kenmare, Ballinskelligs, Waterville and so many more places to see. World class golf courses in Killarney, Ballybunion, Tralee, Bantry.... and Cork City itself only a short jaunt away for a feast of further experiences.

Words of warning - You may never be able to leave!! Its such a magical place that having visited once, you will be assured that West Cork will stay on your travel agenda for many years. The weather is irrelevant - and it does rain a bit in Ireland - there is no where in the world quite like West Cork and Schull. All of the places mentioned above are available to view on line.
