Our home

Our home is a large two storey rural home with 5 bedrooms-two double bedrooms en-suite and three single rooms-all upstairs. Downstairs there is a large kitchen, two reception rooms and a study. At the back is a mature garden that is lovely for sitting out when our Irish weather allows. The house is not suitable for very young children (under 4 years) due to the stairs and while there is a fence around the garden there is access to a minor road.

Our home offers lots of space and is comfortable and cosy.

We are 12 miles (19km) from Waterford city but there is a local shop and pub http://www.citylocal.ie/Waterford/Restaurants-in-Waterford/Pisces-Restaurant/b-6if8/ where you can eat and have a drink just 5 mins drive from our home or 10 mins walk uphill. There is also a restaurant called the Copper Hen which is about 20 mins drive along the coast towards Tramore. http://www.thecopperhen.ie/

Who we are

  1. We are Anne (college lecturer) and Maurice (driving instructor)and we have three grown up children Eileanóir, Labhaoise and Cormac in their 20's. We like a combination of exploring the local sights and relaxing in the sunshine when we holiday. We would like a sunny garden and a pool would be a bonus but not essential. We enjoy good food so access to restaurants is important so we do not have to drive too far for amenities. Even better if we can walk or take train/bus to eat out.
We have a cat called Guinness who lives outdoors and if you prefer we can get a neighbour to feed him. He is an independent outdoor cat and never enters the house.

This is our first time signing up for a house exchange and we are excited about it. You can check recomendations for us on the website https://www.airbnb.ie/rooms/6668919?s=ZvbCrtuX
as we take Airbnb guests into our home and we enjoy meeting people from around the world.
We are clean and tidy and we will be very respectful of your home and leave it exactly as we found it.

The area where we live is called The Copper Coast and it is on the south coast of Ireland. It gets its name from the 19th Century copper mines that lie along the coast. It has 25 kilometres of spectacular coastline consisting of fabulous beaches and coves enclosed by rocky headlands.
The area was declared a European Geopark in 2001 and a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2004. This area contains records of Palaeozoic volcanism and the last ice age.

Sea & river kayaking available nearby as well as surf lessons, horse riding & mountain bike tours.
We are situated just off the Copper Coast 2 miles from Kilmurrin cove. The Visitors Centre located in Bunmahon provides information on the area. It is a very scenic area with the sea to the south and the Comeragh Mountains to the north west. The Knockmaoldown Mountains are close by and they are very popular with hikers and walkers, The Vee drive over the Knockmaoldowns is a spectacular drive.

Walking Trails:
Along with an audio tour around Annestown, there are walking trail cards for the villages of Annestown, Boatstrand, Bunmahon, Dunhill, Fenor, Stradbally Trails, and Audio Trails along the Copper Coast. The trail cards can be printed or stored for viewing on your phone.
The Deise Greenway http://www.deisegreenway.com/railway.php is a walkway created on the old railway lines and is great for family walks and cycles. This starts just a few mins drive away.
