Teddington:

Enter through the majestic gates of Woodstock Desmesne http://www.woodstock.ie/ and hopefully collect some organic eggs on sale, then pass the ramparts of the ruined house, enjoy the stunning gardens and see the Irish version of the Lost Gardens of Heligan except the trees are better and you are only about 1000 metres from the magical “Teddington” known locally as “Tidedington” on the banks of the tidal River Nore.

This is seriously secluded retreat in a unique setting with a splendid stand of beech, oak, ash, laurel and pine on the far side of the river. Fish the famous salmon pool, where the largest salmon caught in the last 20 years, a stunning 32 pounder, swam past to be caught further up the Nore. Sit on the river side bench and have your sundowners watching wild life such as otters, hares, pine martens and if you are fast, the flashing kingfisher. Wave to the boats and kayaks or the passing New Ross Galley which you can join in New Ross. http://www.rivercruises.ie/
The Hansel and Gretel cottage was built as part of the Desmesne in the late 1790’s but redesigned, modernized and extended in 2001 by a former Chairman of the Crafts Council of Ireland.

Every morning open the doors of the master bedroom and go onto your balcony and listen to the dawn chorus, then have your breakfast at the Kilkenny limestone table on the patio as you bask in the morning sun, then at night light your BBQ and spend the night watching the stars.

The three spacious bedrooms with different characters are en suite have, with king sized double beds all three with showers but the blue room also has a bath.
There is a cozy sitting room with lots of books as you cuddle up to the log fire, play Scrabble or bridge, or if needs be you can switch on the TV with all the normal channels and a DVD player. The sofa can drop down to a small single bed.

However we suspect that you will spend most of your time in the main living area which is 30 feet long and 20 foot wide beneath the wooden beams and 20 foot ceiling, with wrap around panoramic treble glazed windows opening on to the patio. The commissioned oak dining table sits comfortably beneath the 19th century wrought iron candelabra in a warm room with under floor heating, a wood burning stove and Oil fired Stanley cooker, which is better than an AGA as you can have both a bath and crispy roast potatoes at the same time.

Kilkenny Limestone fossil worktops give ample space in the kitchen area, fitted with dishwasher, macerator, microwave/grill and fridge freezer.
In the mud/utility room is a clothes washer and an additional sInk and old fashioned clothes drying rack.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are a married couple in our 60's Cyril works in financial services and is and has been on a number of Boards both  public and private companies. Jill is a homemaker and has managed and designed the interior of many properties including Teddington.
We are both interested in the Arts.
We have two sons the eldest works in New York with www.zeebox.com and lives in Tribeca with is wife and son whom we would like to visit  if we are offered an interesting swap in the Fall and could stay either in New York or within a few hours drive of it say the Hamptons.
We would like to go to Continental  Europe in the  Spring  or Autumn.
We will exchange for a different time if that suited people which means we are more likely to swap a second home.
We will not leave Ireland in July or August though we could agree for people to come to Teddington during these months if a suitable exchange were agreed.
We are not at all interested in Long Haul other than  New York.
We  interested in Europe (anywhere the Romans have been, minded that they did a great job in Britain) hopefully within walking access to good local food with a bit of history, Gardens or walks.
Teddington is most special to us as we spend as much time here as we do in Dublin where our other house is and are happy to exchange with people of a similar mentality where we shall show regard and respect for their home too.
