Our home

Our home is a two story semi detatched house on suburbs of Galway city. We have lived here for the past five years and we love it. We have four bedrooms. The master bedroom is a double with en suite, we have another double bedroom and a single bedroom and a childs bedroom. We fitted a new kitchen last year (2009). The living room is nice and comfortable with piano, big tv and cable, hifi etc. Large dining room to the rear has sliding doors leading to outdoor decking with BBQ and seating area. We have front and rear gardens with surrounding trees for privacy.

Who we are

  1. We are a couple in our early thirties. Ciara is finishing a phd and Stephen is an actuary/musician. We love travelling and learning about other cultures. This is our first time trying the house swap thing but it just makes so much sense!

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our home is around 2 miles to Galway city centre and about 1 mile from the nearest beach which is the beautiful Silver Strand. This is very popular with windsurfers and is family friendly with life guards and an ice cream van (weather permitting!) There is a lovely walk to Bearna woods which is a beautiful area and is very nice to go running in also. Galway city itself is a fantastic and vibrant town. Amazing restaurants (try Ard Bia on the quays and you will be glad you did), lively bars (try The Crane for traditional Irish music or The Roisin Dubh for just about any other kind of music) and great shops. There is always something good in the Town Hall Theatre as well as the many other venues scattered about. People watching is a must as Galway is crammed full of charactars! The area we live in is nice and quiet and neighbours are lovely. There is a bus stop on the main road with regular busses to town but if the weather is nice it is a good walk / cycle. Bikes can be rented in town on short or long term basis.

Nearby attractions include the World famous Aran islands off the West coast and tours run daily from the city centre, the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Lough Corrib (renowned for its trout fishing) and too many others to mention. This really is a beautiful part of the World and we treasure it.
