Our home

We live in a large, south facing 4 bedroom detached house near the entrance to a quiet, mature housing estate in Galway City.

The kitchen opens out to the dining room and a den/seating area which all look out into the garden. . The seating area has double doors to the south facing garden with a view of an old abbey.

The living room is large, and features an open fireplace with couches, easy-chairs, a large television and an antique piano.

The four bedrooms - including one master bedroom ensuite - are all upstairs. There are bunk beds in the girls' room. So the house sleeps six very comfortably.

The back garden is large - very large for an urban garden and includes a climbing frame, trampoline and goal posts. There is also a large selection of bikes in the garage.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of six. John is a journalist and Marie is a third level lecturer. We have two girls, aged 6 and 14, and two boys aged 9 and 12. We've done seven exchanges so far and have had very positive experiences on all of them.

We have found that the when there is a good match with the children, the exchanges have been wonderful. The toys, the house, the bikes, the car seats, the gardens etc all make holidaying with children a real holiday.

We could travel for two weeks at Easter and any time between 20 June and 30th August. We are open to two or three weeks.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Galway city is the capital city of the West of Ireland.

Our home is a 20 minute walk from the city centre in one direction and a 20 minute walk to the beach in the other direction. A 5 minute walk will take you to a local park with a playground.

Eyre Square - Galway's main square is a 20 minute walk away from our home, or you can cycle, or take the bus, which goes from the bus stop (a minute's walk away) every half hour - and more frequently during the morning.

We are surrounded by shops, pubs, gyms, swimming pools, children's play zones, playgrounds, sports grounds (soccer, rugby, horse and greyhound racing, GAA) hotels, and all of the other things you would expect to find in a thriving, modern city.

Galway was named as the top microcity in Europe last year by the Financial Times fDi magazine (for cities less than 100,000 people ). We are the world’s friendliest city according to Travel & Leisure Magazine. It is the UNESCO City of Film.

We are close to the sea (a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive). Connemara, the Corrib river, the Twelve Bens, the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands are on our wild Atlantic doorstep.

There is always a festival of some kind going on, for example, see the International Arts Festival (http://www.giaf.ie/), the Galway Races (www.galwayraces.com/), the Oyster Festival (galwayoysterfestival.com/).
