Our home

Our house is a compact but comfortable family home in a small housing estate about 20 minutes easy walk from Galway city centre. The neighbourhood is quiet and our home is easily accessible by car from all sides of the city. It is a 4 bedroom semidetached house which sleeps 7 people comfortably. 1 single room and 3 double bedrooms, one of which also has a sofa futon. 2.5 WCs, wooden floors on the ground floor and carpet upstairs.
There is parking for 2 cars and a pleasant back garden. There is a trampoline with safety net in the back garden. We can arrange to insure the 2010 Toyota Corolla and/or 2006 Peugeot for your use while you are here. We have oil-fired central heating and an open coal or wood burning fire in the living room (summer in Ireland), lots of TV channels, high speed wifi, laptop and printer.

Who we are

  1. I am a self-employed professional and part-time university lecturer and my husband, Michael is office manager and we have just one child at home; a 12 year old whose only interests are electronic games, violin and athletics (running). We have never house-exchanged with non-family before but we want to stay in Chicago during August 2013. We would like to have 3+ bedrooms as 1 or 2 of our adult children may join us in Chicago for a couple days. We are clean, tidy and careful with other people's homes and possessions and would be thrilled to be able to stay in a family home.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Galway is a busy university town on the west coast of Ireland, 2hrs drive (3 hrs by bus or train) from Dublin airport and 1 hr from Shannon airport (2hrs by bus). There is a plethora of festivals during the summer: During August the main festivals and events are; Connemara Pony Show, Cruinniú na mBád (Gathering of the Boats) in Kinvara, 19 miles away, and many free cultural events in Galway Heritage week. If you like running you could enter the streets of Galway 8k, or if you are more adventurous you could try the Connemara 100 or Gaelforce West. However there are other more sedentary pursuits; golf, wonderful scenery in Connemara National Park to the west, the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren to the south and the Aran Islands in the Atlantic. For such a small city there is a large number of fine restaurants, wine bars, nightclubs, pubs and entertainment. For children there are activities such as street entertainment, theatre, the funfair at Leisureland, horse riding, swimming, the beach and windsurfing in Salthill and woods in which to walk. Galway is renowned for its history and culture; traditional Irish music in many of the pubs, art galleries, literary events and historic buildings.
