Our home

An architecturally designed open-plan modern, comfortable family home in a rural setting. We are on a 2 acre site, on a quiet cul-de-sac and only 3 mins drive from 2 villages with butcher, grocery, post-office, pharmacy, coffee-shops, playgrounds, church.
Our house was built in 2013 and is heated with underfloor heating via an air-source heat pump. We also have a heat-recovery system. The house was designed to avail of maximum sunlight and is a bright, relaxing space to live in.
Upstairs we have 4 spacious bedrooms, sleeping 8 people comfortably. The main bedroom has an en-suite with wet-room and rain shower. The family bathroom has double sinks, a bath and large wet-room shower. We have an open-plan kitchen/dining area with Neff oven, oven/micro combi, dishwasher, large fridge. We have a large separate utility room with washing machine, dryer, freezer. There is also a downstairs bathroom with wet-room. The family room has a wood burning stove (rarely needed), smart TV with satellite and netflix and a large floor to ceiling window offering spectacular views of the surrounding fields. Our second family room acts as a den for our boys with large t.v. and xBox360. The house is equipped with 10mb Internet access with wifi downstairs and is a non-smoking house.

Who we are

  1. We are a married couple Dennis and Geraldine with 2 sons aged 12
and 10. Dennis works in telecoms as an engineer and I am a primary school teacher. Dennis is Dutch and we are regular visitors to Amsterdam visiting his family. We completed our first house exchange this past Summer and we are hooked. We now look forward to many more happy exchanges. We would expect to arrange an exchange some way in advance in order to get to know our fellow exchangers via email first to see how best we can facilitate their stay in Ireland. We are happy to organize a car-swap.

Our home is located 15 minutes from Shannon Airport. We are located 30/40 minutes drive from some of Ireland's top tourist destinations e.g. The Cliffs of Moher and it's Atlantic Way Cliff Walk, The Burren and Mullaghmore, Lahinch Beach (A surfer's paradise), Spanish Point and Kilkee beaches. We are 15 mins drive from Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and the luxurious 5 star Dromoland Castle Hotel and Country Estate, is across the road!! There are 4 golf clubs within easy reach and horse/pony riding is only 5 mins away.
The town of Ennis is 7km from our home with a great variety of restaurants, take-aways, coffee shops. Ennis is known as The Boutique Capital of Ireland which makes for lovely browsing with a lovely variety of shops.
The local village is Clarecastle, 3km drive and has grocery store, pharmacy, post-office, church, butcher, a lovely new coffee-shop/restaurant/antiques shop and there is also a farmers market 3 days a week and a recently opened playground.
We live on a quiet cul-de-sac in the country-side with lovely neighbours. Our home is surrounded by agricultural land and a walk to the end of the road brings you to the Shannon Estuary. The sun sets to the back of our house and with our large patio area and 2 acres of grass, it's a lovely spot for summer dining.
