Our home

The house measuring 200 sq metres was built in 1969 and has been well maintained (fully redecorated in 2007). We live here happily since 1985. It is a dormer bungalow. There is a large entrance hall, a very comfortable sitting room (open fireplace) with open access to the dining room, a very well equipped kitchen, and a large conservatory at the rear of the house which attracts a lot of sunshine. There is a study with broadband internet facility. We have 4 bedrooms. The guest bedroom on the ground floor has a double bed and it has WC and shower facilities immediately nearby. The large master bedroom upstairs has ensuite bathroom facilities. The other 2 bedrooms upstairs have single beds and there is a bathroom and seperate WC on this level. There is a large garage attached to the house and there are well kept gardens both to the front and rear of the house. The house is very secure. It is fitted with an alarm system which is monitored on a 24/7 basis. We have bicycles that we can make available as well as cars (Volvo S80 and VW Golf) that we can exchange.

Property features

Who we are

  1. We are 4 people: John (54) married to Mary (53) for almost 29 years, with 2 daughters, Kate (21) and Clare (16). John is an entepreneur and Mary is a lawyer, while the girls are both students. We like to travel to places where there are interesting things to see rather than holiday resorts. We are interested in historical places and we have a fondness for visiting museums. To chill out we like to read and swim. Both urban and rural settings are of interest. We have travelled extensively both inside and outside of Europe but our first home exchange was with a family in Paris (Christmas 2009) and the experience was a great success for both families. The French family was very happy with our home. We plan to do many more exchanges in the future. We undertake to look after your property very well during the exchange and we expect you to do likewise in return. We can be described as serious and responsible individuals who can be relied upon to honour any arrangement entered into and in our home you can expect to find things exactly as we describe them to you in advance. We give the correct location and honest description of our home and locality. We can communicate both in English and French.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Blackrock is an excellent neighbourhood located on the coast 7 km from the centre of Dublin. It was home to the well-known Irish writer James Joyce. Our house is a 15 minute walk (5 minute drive) from the centre of Blackrock village. All of the people in the neighbourhood live in their own houses and there are plenty of trees and parks in the area. There is a very reliable and frequent bus and rail service to take people to and from the city centre. Large shopping centres to satisfy every need are located nearby. Blackrock is located along a lovely coastline and it is close to the village of Dalkey, home to many writers, film stars and musicians (including U2). Leopardstown horse racing facility is a 5 minute drive from our house. There are at least 8 different golf courses within a 10 km radius from where we live and the Wicklow mountains with beautiful walks are not far away. People interested in sailing will be able to use the marina located at the nearby town of Dun-Laoghaire. Dublin itself is a city of culture with much to offer visitors. The city itself is over 1,000 years and has a population of 1.5 million people. Our house also allows easy access to the M50 ringroad which makes it easy for visitors to travel to other parts of the country. Apart from the history and the scenery, visitors to Ireland enjoy a very warm welcome from the Irish population.
