Our home

Our house is an Edwardian period house which has been restored with all its original period features and remodelled to provide a warm and modern welcoming family home. On the ground floor, a comfortable living room, open fire place with original marble fireplace, tv/dvd, hifi, collection of movies, dvd's etc, double doors opening into the dining room give the option to create a private dining area or use the living dining area open-plan. The kitchen opens directly on to a compact private garden with scrubs and ivy covered walls and paved dining area. Upstairs there are three rooms; one double bedroom, a single bedroom, a spacious 3 person office and a family bathroom. There is a very comfortable double sofa-bed in the living room if needed.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of three; Tao is an architect, Gerard a property company director and our 17 year old daughter who is still at school. We love to travel; cities and also more remote far flung corners of the globe. Right now we are looking for a summer break of approx 1 or 2 weeks in southern Europe.

We have exchanged four times before - all are great experiences; We are keen that you will enjoy your stay at our home and we assure you we will take good care of yours.

Your neighbourhood

The house is well located for exploring Dublin. Although close to the centre, it is in a nice quiet residential road, south west of the centre, approx 20 mins ride by LUAS (Dublin's tram system) or bus. The LUAS and bus-stops are very convenient, within 4 mins walk from the house. A Dublin bikes station (Dublin's bike rental scheme: http://www.dublinbikes.ie) is just 2 mins walk. Or, if you are feeling energetic, its approx 30 mins walk to the central areas; Grafton Street shopping area, Trinity College and St Stephens Green; the cultural quarter with the National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Dail Eireann (the Parliament Buildings)etc etc and nearby, the bar and restaurant and entertainment area of Temple Bar.

Some of Dublin's famous attractions and beautiful walks in the immediate environs of the house. IMMA, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, set in beautiful gardens, Kilmainham Jail(formerly a prison, now restored as a museum and the Guinness Brewery Museum, also known as the 'Guinness Store House', are all within easy walking distance. We also have some beautiful walks and parks nearby; along the banks of the river Liffey at Memorial Park (10 mins away), along the Grand Union Canal (3 mins away) and in the Phoenix Park (20 Mins), Dublin’s largest park where you can walk for miles through beautiful parkland, wooded areas with a lake and playing fields; you can see up close its herds of wild deer and antelope and its also home to Dublin's Zoo.
