Our home

We offer 2 options for home exchange. A bright, spacious, modern, comfortable family home a little over 4 miles (6km) south of Dublin City Centre and 30 minutes drive from Dublin Airport. We also offer a beautifully situated holiday home on the SE coast of Co. Wexford in Morrisscastle Village, Kilmuckridge just over 66 miles (107km) drive from our family home. We also offer you the use of a 2014 Hyundai ix35 car for the duration of your stay in our home.

Our home is bright, spacious, clean and comfortable with a south facing aspect. Although built in the arly 1960s it has been extended and modernised in recent years and furnished to a high standard with all home comforts and mod cons. The large open plan sunny kitchen/dining/family room is the heart of our home with wall mounted flat screen Smart TV and Blu-ray DVD Player and wireless SONAS sound speaker that can link up with your smartphone/tablet. This overlooks our large enclosed landscaped back garden and deck with ample seating and BBQ area. Access to the garden and deck is through bi- fold doors in the kitchen/dining/family room and also through sliding patio doors in the back living room. At the end of the garden there is a gate giving easy access to a residents’ private park with tennis courts and large green space for playing soccer, cricket, rounders and running around. It is a very safe space where young and older children can enjoy playing out in the fresh air and meet local children. To the side of the house is a secured covered side passage with washer and dryer and where there are 2 adult bikes and 1 kids BMX bike stored and available for your use.
Downstairs we also have 2 living rooms with sliding doors that can be opened to make one very large room. The front larger living room is furnished with 2 sofas and a matching armchair with a wall mounted flat screen Smart TV and DVD player with satellite channels and a gas fire inset into the wall. The smaller sitting room at the back of the house is also furnished with comfortable sofa and chairs flat screen TV, DVD player, satellite channels and a gas fire. There is also an office/TV room with small sofa and Xbox. There is also a bathroom with electric shower on this level.

Upstairs we have a main bathroom with bath and shower. There are 5 bedrooms in total with 2 bedrooms en-suite both with shower. There are 3 double rooms – one with Super King Bed (en-suite) one with King Bed and one with standard double bed. There is a smaller spare room with a single bed. The 5th bedroom is in the converted attic (en-suite) with a single bed. There is ample wardrobe space in all bedrooms. Ideally we would like to keep one room closed off to store some of our belongings and provide our guests with wardrobe space etc but this can be negotiated as to which room once we know what your particular needs are.

We have an assortment of books you are very welcome to read. and as we have 2 children there is an assortment of children’s books, board games, jigsaws, DVDs, Xbox and Wii games. We also have a men's set of golf clubs and youth size set should you wish to have a round of golf.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of 5 dipping our toes into home exchange for the first time as our neighbours who we are great friends with have and many great experiences with travelling through home exchange. My husband Keith is a secondary school teacher of Geography, Economics and Business while I once a primary school teacher am now a working in the home and involved in voluntary work with kids in our local parish church. We have 2 well behaved children, a girl 18 (who has just finished her final school exams) and a boy 12 ( starting secondary school in September’ 14). We live in the family home in which I grew up with Granny, my wonderful mum Joan. For our first home exchange for summer 2015 we are eager to visit Orange County in California as my brother is living in San Jose with his wife and 3 girls while Keith has a son living and working in the university in Irvine. We also hope to travel with another family member. We are hoping in 2016/17 to visit another of Keith’s sons and his 2 grandchildren who live in Singapore but are also open to suggestions and other possibilities of travel. We have a lovely home that we know any family would enjoy as a base from which to explore our wonderful Emerald Isle and all it has to offer. We will look after your home with respect as if it were our own. We look forward to hearing from you hoping that you might be interested in visiting Ireland for your summer 2015 vacation !

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our comfortable, bright and spacious home is in the tranquil south Dublin residential suburb of Rathfarnham situated at the foothills of the picturesque Dublin Mountains. It is perfectly located to explore the cultural capital and all it has to offer with something for everyone. We live a little over 4 miles (6km) away from the city centre which is easily accessed by car or a regular bus service. Head into the city centre to visit the many tourist attractions while experiencing the infamous culture and Irish hospitality. Take time out visiting St Patrick’s Cathedral and Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin Castle, The Guinness Hopstore, Trinity College and the Book of Kells. Take a breather and sample a pint of the black stuff in one of the many renowned pubs before going on The Viking Splash. Take a walk along the board walk by the River Liffey taking in Temple Bar before making the short walk up to the hustle and bustle of Grafton Street with street entertainment and buskers before heading in to the tranquillity of beautiful Stephen’s Green. There are many museums with free admission to visit such as The National Art Gallery, The Museum of Modern Art and The National Museum of Ireland.

Our area boasts many local amenities with local parks and playgrounds, local shops pitch and putt courses and several Golf courses all nearby. Bushy Park, St Enda’s Park and Marlay Park are all close by - sample delicious local produce at the Farmer’s Market in Marley Park every weekend. The Dublin Mountains are a 5 minute drive away with beautiful mountain walks and forest trails. The Dundrum Town Centre, a large shopping area with plenty of restaurants, bars and cinemas is a 10 minute drive away.

The M50 is 5 minute drive from our home. It is the main motorway providing easy access to other areas of Dublin you might like to visit along the coast – Malahaide, Howth, Portmarnock, Dun Laoghaire, Dalkey and Killiney. The M50 also brings you quickly onto main routes to other parts of the Emerald Isle you might like to explore and most places are only a 2/3 hour drive.

Why not take a break away from the city and suburbia and spend some time in our lovely, comfortable, spacious 4 bedroomed holiday home in Morriscastle Village, Kilmuckridge, Co Wexford which is just over 66 miles ( 107km) away. From here you can explore along the coast of the ‘Sunny SE’ with it’s fabulous beaches and fishing towns – for example Dunmore East, Rosslare, Kilmore Quay.
