Property features

Who we are

  1. We are Theo (a Civil Engineer) and Annette (working in the home!) and Maeve (age 10) who love to travel, eat well, see and experience new things and countries. We have exchanged in France and loved the experience.

We do not like organized holidays, we much prefer to take our own pace and explore the more unusual, less touristic features of an area. We would look after your home as our own and we are sure you would do the same here. We have a dog (Lola) but if you do not wish to mind a dog, we can organize for her to go to the kennels - it is your holiday after all! I would, however, ask you to feed the goldfish every other day.

My kitchen is your kitchen and I invite you to use whatever you wish to use from my cupboard. I love to cook ethnic foods, Indian, Thai so I have a good supply of spices.

We are very easy going. We like to walk, cycle, swim and explore the locality and eat the local foods. I speak French and Spanish which are passable.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Nestled in the middle of a quiet village, our home offers you the perfect base to visit the beautiful tourist locations along the West coast, e.g. Cliffs of Mohair, the Burren which is perfect for hiking/hill walking. Connemara with its raw beauty and beautiful beaches.

Because we are in the village, you can dispense with the car and take the bus (2 mins walk away) or train (5 mins away) to Dublin or Galway. If you are flying into Dublin Airport, take the bus which will drop you within 2 mins of the house. Shannon Airport is less then 1 hour away!

Galway City is 20 mins away. It is a student town renowned for its arty and bohemian trademark. It is filled with cafés and restaurants, all wanting to showcase local cheeses, meats, fish and veg. See www.galwaytourism.ie or www.lonelyplanet.com. Miss the Galway market at your peril on a Saturday morning. It is a wonderful food market with plenty of Artisan foods and a MUST for any visitor!

Venture further and you enter the world of Connemara with its raw beauty, mountains, hiking trails, beaches hidden away. There is plenty to see and do in the area but not as a whistlestop tour. Take the time to stop, talk to the locals. They love nothing more than to chat to anyone who will give them the time - the Irish LOVE to talk! This is the way to improve your English!

If you are a golfer, then you have many treats in store as there are two golf courses within 10 minutes of the house. There are lovely old houses, castles and gardens to visit within 1/2 hour's drive.

Loughrea is a little more than 5 mins drive which has a great playground and skateboard ramp, a lake where it is safe to swim, tennis courts and lots of restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques if you want a relaxing day!

Athenry is about 10 minutes away and is a medieval heritage town, again with coffee shops and restaurants.

Oranmore is right on the coast and there are lovely walks near the yacht club, playgrounds and a great supply of supermarkets.
