The Galway area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland. Galway is a university town with a population of about 75,000 and a well-deserved reputation for its cultural activities, particularly theatre and traditional Irish music. During the summer months, there is almost always some festival in progress. The town has wonderful art galleries, bookshops, craft shops and traditional knitwear shops.
