Our home

My house is a 200 year old extended gate lodge, set in a 3.8 acre garden. It is full of character, yet convenient and well-equipped. The original gate lodge has been doubled and the new wing now includes a large garden room adjoining the kitchen. The grounds are stunning with a huge lime trees, chestnuts, beeches, a large pond, wild flowers, woodland and a more formal herbaceous border. It is just 50 minutes drive from Dublin and there are public transport options (bus and train) in the nearby villages of Sallins and Clane. Co Kildare is a noted horse-breeding county and there are three premier race-courses nearby. There are fine restaurants and pubs in Naas, the county town, but also in the villages of Sallins and Clane.
You can be walking in the Wicklow National Park (gentle mountains), or visiting the city of Dublin within one hour's drive, but if you wish to visit the spectacular west coast of Ireland, it is possible to take a day trip to the famous Cliffs of Moher in County Clare - but it's a long day.

Who we are

  1. I am a single lady, now retired, but who previously worked as a copy-writer, journalist, teacher and porcelain restorer. I have been living in this house for 35 years - it was the family home - I raised my three children here. I love reading, travel, gardening, tennis, hill-walking. I am interested in a cultural exchange. I travel solo quite often, but also with family and friends. While I love cities, I would also be open to an exchange anywhere in the high Alps.. I would love to ski again and take my family, but i am not interested in a busy resort., but in a village. This does not have to be a simultaneous exchange, as my house is old and not particularly warm in winter.

  2. Because I live in a very rural place and also because I am not keen on driving, I am most interested in visiting cities or towns.

  3. I love art and culture, so i would be happy to make an exchange in any great European city - London, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Madrid or Lisbon.
