Our home

Our home is an old farmhouse. We were drawn to it because of its character and rustic charm. The house is over one hundred years old and is built from stone. We have a large living dining kitchen. Off the kitchen, we have a large conservatory in which we have a living grapevine! We have a separate sitting room with wood burning stove. The house is centrally heated. There is a separate study downstairs which can sleep two people if required. We have a small play area off the kitchen and outside we have a converted outbuilding which doubles as a further playroom. Upstairs we have 3 bedrooms, two double and one single. We have a cot and travel cot available. There are toilets upstairs and downstairs; the main bathroom is on the ground floor. We have a utility room with freezer and dryer. We have a secure backgarden which leads directly to the play room and a large front garden which is mature and provides seating area for outdoor dining etc. There are a range of fruit bushes including blackcurrant, redcurrant, raspberries and gooseberries for those exchangers who time their visit right! There is ample parking at the top of our tree lined drive and our car can be available if required.

Who we are

  1. We are a family of four. Shane is a teacher in a local primary school. Alison is a stay at home mom, looking after our children Mia (3 years) and Theo (1). We love living in the country but also within close proximity of our local towns and all they have to offer! We are hoping to travel to visit family members in Brittany and America and to other areas for the fun of it! We have two cats, Penny and Bella who are friendly and need nothing but food and occasional tummy/neck tickles! We would take care of your home as our own.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

Our home is situated on the scenic drive which encircles the beautiful Lough Key Forest Park. We have beautiful views from our southfacing home and the lake view is just 5 minutes walk from our house. We are situated within walking distance of a small nature reserve and we have a beautiful woodland/lake walk on our doorstep. The Forest Park is just a few minutes car journey from our door and is a great tourist attraction. The Park offers opportunities for country and woodland walks, boat trips, board walks through the treetops and zip wiring. There are playgrounds and boda borg activities, so there is something for all age groups on offer.

We are situated just 20 minutes from Carrick on Shannon, 10 minutes from Boyle and 40 minutes from Sligo and the seaside. We are approx 2.5 hours away from Dublin. Dublin is accessible by train (2hours journey time). Carrick on Shannon, has something to offer for all age groups; There are several good restaurants, a cinema and theatre and art gallery. There is a vibrant nightlife and festivals, including the 'Carrick Water Music Festival' which takes place in July. As Carrick is situated on the Shannon Erne Waterway our area is popular with people who enjoy boating and fishing. There are daily boat trips on offer in town.

Carrick has it's own swimming pool, indoor bowling alley, tennis courts, library, and indoor and outdoor playgrounds for smaller children.

We are well situated for several beautiful golf courses including Carrick on Shannon, Rosses Point and Strandhill (Links) and Castle Dargan (Designed by Darren Clark). The latter also houses a spa and restaurant.

There is a farmers market in Boyle (Saturday) and Carrick (Thursday). There is also an organic garden centre within minutes drive of our home, and this is a great source for local salads and vegetables, for those who like to dine at home!

Sligo offers good shopping and restaurants as well as as summer arts and music festivals and the Yeats Festival. There are beaches at Strandhill, Rosses Point, and Enniscrone (all approximately 40 mins - 1 hour away and so easily within a day trip from our home). Surf lessons are available at Strandhill. Horseriding is available just outside of Boyle.
