Our home

Our home is located 25kms West of Cork Airport, 7 kms west of Bandon and just 12 kms from Clonakilty. It is in a lovely rural setting with a big garden and it has a lovely sunny area at the rear of the house.
Our house was built in June 2010 and it has every modern convenience (American style fridge-freezer, double oven, cable TV, solar panels, power showers, stove, 3 TVs and dvd players, electric gates, nespresso machine etc.)
Downstairs there is a large utility room and bathroom, an open plan warm bright kitchen/diningroom/sittingroom, a sunroom, a more formal sitting room (with a piano) and a study (computer, sofa bed, x-box).
Upstairs there are 4 large bedrooms, all en-suite. The master bedroom has a king size bed, a walk-in dressing room which leads into a bathroom with a bath and shower. Two bedrooms have double beds and are bright and spacious. The 4th bedroom has two single beds and a double futon, and is currently used as a spare room. A large window on the landing upstairs has a lovely view. There are lots of toys and games available on request (most are stored away now).
Outside there is a shed with two bikes, and ample parking space. The garden is large with lots of flowers and plants.

Who we are

  1. I am a secondary school teacher (free to travel in July and August) in my early 50's, with two children, a boy (Brian) aged 21 and a girl (Ciara) aged 16. They may travel with me and if they don't, I would travel with friends or my partner Padraig.
I love gardening, hill walking, art and spending time with my friends and family.
I am open to travelling anywhere this summer within easy access, preferably somewhere warm and sunny.
We would also love to do a short city break, eg to Berlin, London,Edinburgh, during the year.
To date we have had 9 exchanges, 3 to France, two to Spain and one to Italy, two to Germany, and recently one to Morocco, all very successful and enjoyable.
If you choose to come to Cork and to our home, you will not be disappointed.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

We live in the heart of the Irish countryside, it is private and secluded but a really convenient touring base for visiting Cork and Kerry, and from here you can visit Cork City (35kms) and County. I would especially recommend West Cork!

It is very near the market town of Bandon, only 5 minutes drive away, or 15 minutes west to the well-known town of Clonakilty (great pubs, lots of live music and festivals, excellent restaurants and cafes).
Near Clonakilty, there is the renowned Spa Hotel and blue flag beach at Inchydoney, where there is a surf school for the more active! There are also 2 horseriding centres in Clonakilty, a playground, leisure centre, cinema, tennis courts etc.

All within a 30 to 60 minute drive, you can visit Cork City, eat in the gourmet maritime town of Kinsale, kiss the famous Blarney Stone, drive west to Skibbereen, Baltimore, Schull, Bantry etc. Or go East of the city to Cobh, Midleton, or Fota Wildlife Park (zoo).

You are near the Coast and some incredible beaches, but also near hills and mountains for great hill-walking and panoramic views. Killarney in County Kerry is only 1 hour 15 minutes away with its beautiful lakes and mountains, and West Cork is famous for its beauty, pubs, restaurants and really friendly people.
Our close proximity to Cork's International airport and to West Cork,www.westcork.ie, means that there will be endless opportunities for exploring and relaxing.
