Our home

Our house is a modern stone house with 5 bedrooms, two ensuite bathrooms,
and one seperate bath. The kitchen and living room is a large open space
with a gallery over head which is treated as a play/TV room. There is a
sunroom off of the living room which is a great retreat for adults which
overlooks the terrace and has a view of Baltimore Harbour. The guest room
is on the other side of the house with a loft area which can be used for
another bedroom. Both are connected to an ensuite bathroom. This is conducive for anyone having guests who might enjoy their own space.
The house is great for entertaining or just relaxing on your own. We have lots of games and DVD's for the kids and adults alike as well for those times that you are looking for inside activity.

Who we are

  1. My husband is Irish and grew up in Cork. He has a love of history, sailing, cycling, skiing. He is an architect from Trinity University in Dublin, and currently doing a Master's in Urban Planning. I am American and have lived in Ireland for 14 years. I have an undergraduate degree in Mass Communications and a Master's in Education from Boston College. I work as a primary school teacher and specialise in resource teaching and teaching English as a foreign language. I love horseriding, skiing, running, cycling, and swimming. We have three daughters who we enjoy spending time with. Emily is 6 years old, Rachel is 3 years old, and Annabel is 1 years of age. Lots of pink and purple in their rooms! They enjoy music, dancing, swimmming and visiting with their friends. We have never exchanged our house before, but we feel if exchanging it with the right family, that this could be a great way to travel and share our properties. We also have a house near Cork City, and an apartment in the mountains of Slovenia if these are of any interest. We are very fussy about how we keep our house, so it will be in perfect condition for you to use. We will therefore be particular about your house, and will leave it as we found it. We also have a housekeeper/minder if you would like her help while you are here.

Your neighbourhood

Our home in West Cork is in a safe and pretty little estate overlooking the sea. It is perfect for families who have children looking for a fun, but relaxed holiday. Our children love going to Baltimore where they feel they
are set free to play. In the morning, they enjoy walking down to the local shop by themselves to buy freshly made chocolate croissants for the whole family. In the afternoon then, we tend to go for an excursion which may be out to one of the islands where the kids can play on the beach, and we can enjoy a nice picnic. After a day out on the islands there are two meeting places. The local playground is where the kids tend to see all of their friends, and the local bar called Bush's is where the adults meet or just sit and relax with an end of the day drink. La Jolie Brise is an excellent pizza restaurant in the village run by the local Frenchman. There are at least seven good restaurants in Baltimore catering to all tastes, as well as numerous others in the area of West Cork. West Cork is well known for good restaurants. If you have never been to West Cork, there is a lot to discover
from going out to the islands, to just driving along the coast south through Schull and onto Bantry Bay. If you prefer to drive north back towards Cork, there are some lovely places to see such as Castletownsend where a famous hollywood actor lives, Glandore a beautiful harbour, and Clonakilty well known for Inchydowney Beach.
If you just want to stay in Baltimore, there are hiking trails in Lough Hyne, diving classes, cooking, photography, and sailing courses all offered locally.
