Our home

Our new modern family home was completed in 2007 and we love it1 it is full of light, has magnificent views from the living areas , and the bedrooms. downstairs is an open plan kitchen with separate eating areas. I love my italian red kitchen with granite counter tops, two sinks, island unit with stools, dishwasher, american style fridge/freezer, microwave, fabulous coffee machine, and lots of small appliances (blender, toaster, mixer etc). Our family room is close to the kitchen with large windows overlooking a very spacious garden. The fireplace is used a lot during wintertime but we always have logs indoors and can use it at any time. Our spacious dining room can seat up to 10 people and has lovely views of the mountains so you can watch the sun go down while dining. A patio door leads from the dining room onto a lovely brick patio with table and chairs , BarBQ (gas) with scented flowers planted around the perimeter of the patio. Our children have their own "den" with TV, playstation, huge selection of games and movies and a computer you can log on to as a guest with WiFi.
Additionally we have a beautiful playroom for younger children with toys and games to keep them entertained indoors for hours.
Back indoors we have 5 bedrooms, our master suite is downstairs with queen size bed, full bathroom with shower, bathtub and bidet. All other bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with showers, one downstairs and three upstairs. Bedrooms all have queen or double beds with additional single beds in two rooms upstairs and a fold out bed in third room upstairs. The second bedroom downstairs has a full size cot for infant/small child. Use of travel cot and other baby equipment also available for your use. The bedrooms are lovely and comfortable, very conducive to great restful sleep with fabulous mountain views to enjoy when you wake!

I am an avid gardener and like to grow lots of fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers. Guests are welcome to use any of the organically grown fruit and vegetables or herbs and of course take flowers inside to enjoy. Ireland has a very temperate climate and a huge array of vegetables and flowers grow here,(we even have palm trees in our area). My garden produces potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, corn, garlic, raspberries, blueberries, leeks, salad greens and herbs, however my tomatoes, peppers, chilis, strawberries and more "tropical" fruits grow better in my polytunnell. Visitors are free to pick and use whatever they like while they are at our home.

There is a great lawn area for playing football, adults and children love this on site soccer field. We have our grass mowed often so you don't have to worry about that. Outside there are swings, slides, climbing frame, huge sandbox and trampoline where kids can spend hours playing outdoors in our fresh clean irish air! Additionally there is a selection af adult and children bikes, skate boards, ride on toys, rollerblades, and football goals. If you fancy going to the beautiful beach less than 10 minutes away you can take bodyboards, buckets and spades and wetsuits, There are two great adventure centres within a short drive(Ardmore Adventure Centre and Dunmore East Adventure Centre)

We currently have two cars. The one we prefer our exchange partners to use is an automatic 7 seats Hyundai Santa Fe. It is a very comfortable car to drive, our exchange visitors have used it to tour all over Ireland. Our insurance company allows guests to drive our car provided they are over 25 years old and have a driving licence without endorsements/ penalties.

Our family dog is a golden labrador retriever called Jack. He is 12 years old and a really friendly safe pet who lives outdoors. He loves attention and visitors always want to take him home with them! Our neighbour comes over every morning and night to tend to Jack and he stays around the garden throughout the day. However if you prefer not to have Jack around while you are staying at our home we can arrange for him to go to a friends house.

Who we are

  1. I am Mary and I work as a nurse midwife in a local hospital. Pat is my husband of 29 years , he works as a remote worker for an American technology company, We have 4 children Robert who is married and living in Maryland, Mark who lives and works in Dublin , Neil who is in University in Limerick studying Business and German and our daughter Megan who is a medical student in Galway university
We lived in New York for many years and moved home to Ireland in 2000. We built our home close to where Pat grew up and we have lots of family and friends close by. We are really proud of our home and love to have people come to visit. We have exchanged with families from Spain, Germany, France, Switzerland and the US. We love to explore different countries, instilling in our children a desire to travel and explore while staying in regular homes and living like a local. For our summer vacation in 2018 we would love to find a place close to the beach or pool and close to restaurants and tourist sites, my sister and her family( husband and 4 children ages 15, 15, 10 and 8) be travelling with us next summer. There are so many places we want to visit and we love the whole concept of exchanging.

I have one bee hive in a safe secluded area of our huge garden.

When i travel i love to visit gardens, flower shows, markets, castles and other historical sites, I particularly love sitting in the warm sunshine reading or relaxing. Fortunately Pat is as keen to travel as i am , he plays tennis and golf whenever he can as we both like to keep fit and active.
