Our home

Very spacious, 135 sqm, stylish apartment in a beatiful house, just a short walk from Buda Castle and 10 minutes metro ride from the classical city centre. It is composed of a living room, a smaller living room with a balcony, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a seperate toilette. The bedroom and the children's room overlook to an internal garden, so they are very quiet. The apartment has all equipments: dishwasher, washing machine + cable TV, laptop, wifi, etc. We have loads of toys, also some books& DVDs in English and a few in French. In case of longer term exchanges: we have a cleaning lady coming once a week and we also prefer that she makes the final cleaning, so basically you just have to leave the apartment in a reasonable condition. Unfortunately our apartment is not suitable for elderly or for people with disabilities, as we live on the second floor (which is also the last floor) and there is no elevator in the house. You can park inside the house, in case you arrive by car or would like to rent one (we don't have one).

Who we are

  1. We are a family of three: I am Dora, 41, a European civil servant, dealing with communication and cultural projects, passionate about kundalini yoga, arts and interior design; my husband, Marcell, 51, is a photographer and a movie poster collector, a regular petanque player; and our daughter Maja, 9 is at her 2nd grade and a great traveller. :) We have always loved to travel and disliked organised tours and hotel rooms. Previously, I've also had a few hospitality exchanges through Servas with extremely positive experience. Fortunately, Maja seems to share our passion for traveling. We love culture, the bustling of the city and seaside likewise.
We can only swap with apartments accessible by any means of public transport (we can't drive). We are flexible about dates and destinations. We will respect and take good care of your home as it were ours and we are looking for exchangers with a similar attitude.

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The apartment is situated at the Buda-side, just at the foot of the Castle-hill, at the metro station Déli Pályaudvar, just 3 metro stations away from the Parliament, and 4 from the center of the classical downtown of Pest. It has excellent transportation, even during the night. It is a very nice area, two parks are literary at the corner, many playgrounds are just a few blocks away as well as a major shopping mall. Small groceries in our street are open during weekend and at night as well. Budapest has a lot to offer throughout the year both for children and for adults. During the summer months a lot of small open air festivals are on-going and in the beginning of August, the biggest central European music-art festival, SZIGET is taking place in Budapest. In the traditional bathes (all with thermal water), you can cool yourselves down during the summer months or relax in the hot water with chess-playing folks during the winter. There are also special bathes called "strand" with big grassy areas and many swimming pools - open from1st May until the weather is nice. There are a lot of hip, open-air pubs- venues change from year to year. Spring and autumn festival hosts world-famous performers but tickets have to be booked well in advance. Budapest is also fun with children - there is always something on-going in the city that is especially organised for them, especially in the summer. During the winter our favorite places are the indoor play houses and a special museum for children on technical innovations.
