Our home

Our house is a 200 years old, lately fully renovated three stories patrimonial mansion of an old pirates, then sea captains and merchants family that owned it before us. On the top of the eastern side of a rock, at the west side of the harbor of Hydra, it dominates the village and the sea. This area is the best part of this little town. It is where the most prestigious villas with wonderful sea and port views are and where the local climate is best. At the feet of the north side of the rock, 10 minutes walk on stairs through a pine forest, are very nice places for swimming, bars and restaurants. Similarly 10 minutes walk on stairs through the beautiful village are the market, the moorings of the boats, the hospital and the centre of the town.

Our guests apartment, which we propose for exchange, is fully independent, at the ground floor of the mansion. At any point in it, its gardens and terraces the views of the sea, the port and the village are simply astonishing and often garnished by passing sea gulls. This is why we call it the “harbor master’s” place.

It has light coming in from 3 cardinal points, North, South and East, being protected from the Western sun, that can be too hot in summer. It is 80 m2 large with two bedrooms with their own bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and dining room for 4, 3 gardens with Mediterranean aromatic plants, flowers and fruits and two terraces, where sea gulls often take a break. Who we are

  1. Myself Argyro, I am a professional painter and jewels maker, I studied Fine Arts and my husband Ilias is an international development expert mainly working in European policies. He is a doctor in physics. We have two adult independent sons. We found out that Hydra is the “most nice place on the earth”, therefore we spend most of our time there. Our family house is in Athens, where we both come from. We would be interested only to high aesthetics houses in the places we propose.
We travel just the two of us,sometimes four after discussion, therefore a house that can host 2 persons is good for us. We built and decorated some houses until now, so we know how to respect houses of other people.
We will be very pleased to host nice people in our “Harbor’s master” apartment and get acquainted with. We speak English, Italian, French and Greek, but we can manage with some other languages too.
Please consider that we are interested stricktly in "NON SIMULTANEOUS" exchange only. You may have more information at

Where is it?

Your neighbourhood

The town built since the 16th century on a rocky amphitheater has about 2000 local population. A large number of old smaller houses and large mansions renovated and carefully maintained are owned by generally high taste and financially independent people from around the world. The whole town is preserved by law, as it was in the 19th century. Hydra port is the only town on the island. The whole island is mostly covered with pine forests and under the protection of the Greek Archeological Service new buildings are not allowed. No cars, no bicycles are allowed on the island. Transport is by boat, donkeys, mules and horses, or by foot. There are a large number of good restaurants, taverns and bars, fashion shops, beauty salons, groceries etc. Fresh fish is sold on the fishing boats. World known artists, scientists and business people live part of the year here, many of them for many years, either in their houses, or in their yachts moored in the port, or in elegant small hotels. Life is easy and elegant with no extravagance of any kind. Prices are reasonable.
3 to 8 flying boats connect daily the Hydra port with Piraeus (1 hour by metro and less by taxi to the Athens international airport). The trip lasts from 1 hour and 20 minutes to 2 hours. In addition there is a regular passenger service by boat to the little port of Metochi (6 Km form Hydra) on Peloponnese. Metochi, just as other nice places on Hydra or on Peloponnese are reachable also by sea taxis. From Metochi to the Athens international airport it takes about 3 hours by car.
